Christ's sacrifice is the most important event in history simply because of the importance of death and God's creation of it. To celebrate things like Halloween in the manner we do today is to joke about the most important event in history. Death IS sacred. All of Christianity revolves around the fact that we are fallen. Man is mortal and Christ's entire sacrifice acknowledged so. Just because there is a final victory does not mean you can wave away our world and all of its consequences.
