Are tattoos sinful? How does the Lord view them?

Obviously putting a goat head on your back is a no go, but what if I wanted something like a tree or a name of a loved one?

My assumption that it might be a bad idea is that we are attempting to make improvements to the Lord's work which is something I wouldn't want to do, but is that statement accurate?

Yeah it was pretty much a gentile practice in the eyes of the ancient Hebrews so they probably sought to differentiate themselves from it and avoid it. It is still practiced by some near eastern peoples today and has been until recent periods.

Coptic Christians have been getting tattoos for literally thousands of years as a sign of their faith under Muslim rule and Christians have been getting tattoos as a sign of a complete pilgrimage but I'm sure your personal interpretation is the true way and the one God agrees with.

That proscription has been interpreted to have been lifted even though some classical Churches are said to avoid pork too.

The issue with tattoos however is that it allowing one tattoo for any reason could than grant permittance for other markings and potentially cause one to be led through a road of carnal self idolatry i.e. worship of your own flesh.

If it's for commemoration of something couldn't you find some other way to do it. It's also very likely that the drive for getting them is largely for showing off which is pretty much something that should be avoided religiously speaking.

non-traditional tattoos are garbage. just using your body as a billboard. since there's no tradition of getting tattoos in Christianity you shouldn't get any
