Why are black pew Bibles so much comfier than other Bibles? These are so much nicer and more satisfying to hold than Bibles with designed covers or paperback Bibles or giant Bibles meant to be read in churches.

Pew Bibles are pretty cheap. They're for churches to put in the pews, obviously, so they're priced to buy in bulk. If even 10-15 bucks is too expensive you can hit up the Gideons and they'll give you a free bible. They're the people who put the Bibles in hotel rooms and other places for people to use and take home.
