What does it mean to be made in the image of God?

Does it mean God, despite being a non-physical entity still have traits like two eyes, a nose, arms etc?

Does it refer to mental attributes that we have in common with god? Maybe the ability to reason, imagine, create?

It's pretty deep stuff, but yes our creative abilities, reasoning, and emotions are made in his image, the logos, God. However we're warped and fallen, so God incarnated into an image of us as Jesus Christ in order to conquer death and offer us his eternal flesh which is our salvation

Testosterone is the essence which enables mankind to be “like” God. It’s the creative, masculine, force.

The image of God consists of the intellect and the will, therefore respectively, man's ability to comprehend the Good and his ability to act in conformity with it or against it. The terms intellect and will here denote particular Aristotelian-Thomistic concepts that don't coincide with their colloquial senses. They fundamentally account for man's moral and creative agency and define the personal, but the likenesses to God end there. What these traits are to God can only be considered as analogies. God is not simply a bigger, better human, but an entirely different category of being, a Being that transcends anything and everything, including very much even man.

Is it possible for man to be both the visible and invisible image of God? Christ’s pre-incarnate form was the Angel of the LORD, and angels have the visible appearance of men.

I would like to revise my post >>715329 in light of yours. I now think that the specific scriptural meaning of the term image of God rather likely refers to this manifestation of man's dominion over the earth, which resembles God's own over the universe, as the video maintains, but I would add that this dominion is made possible primarily by man's rational soul, the intellect and will again, meaning these capactiies are necessary but not sufficient in order to define the term. The image of God couldn't be reduced to these traits because as the clip correctly states, angels and the like also posses intellects and wills, yet are not said to be made in the image of God. However, the clip makes a mistake by calling animals rational. Animals are not rational because they lack rational souls. Animals can be intelligent in a restricted sense, but this sense does not involve an understanding of universals, which is specifically what the intellect comprehends.

Uh…

"But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone."

Hebrews 2:9

Angels are above us, fampai. Are we only made in God's image physically and no longer are when we die?

c347ae  No.715377

The meaning of Image of God isnt defined and cannot be defined at the end, though it includes Reason and Creativity, as well as Immortality, free will and so on and so forth. But what it means at its fullest is a mystery.

>>715331

I dont know what you ask by this but just note that there is no mention that angels are made in image of God and when church fathers talk about this, they specify what they mean, such as intellect.

Furthermore Jesus didnt assume nature of Angels. "Angel" can denote both created being and simply have meaning of "messenger". In case of Jesus it has latter meaning (No, JW, your """opinions""" doesnt matter)

And finally, Angels "dont have" visible form of humans, though they can assume it.

>>715373

>Angels are above us,

They are not. Read John of Damascus tractates about Icons, it mentions and explains why are humans supreme creation. Words of the psalmist in this case refers to fallen mankind, not mankind that will be restored to its former and rightful place.

ex:

>St. Chrysostom: Other thranslators translated "little lower than God" instead of "than the angels". This is because of the ancient sin leading to death. But the only-begotten son of God destroyed this sin.

also

>St. Theodoret of Cyrrhus: this is about the decision after the ancestral sin, namely the mortality.
