On a surface level, it's against Roman Catholicism's expansion and audacious usurpation of Christ's role in the church. But really it can be applied to politicians and leaders in general, I always get the sense that certain politicans and people in history, Trotsky especially comes to mind, sees humanity in a similar manner despite their professed belief of caring about humanity. It was very prophetic with the Inquisitor saying 'Feed men, before asking them not to sin' (paraphrased)
About it being overly long. Basically all of Dostovesky's work is a giant tautology, in the sense of every point being repeated at least three times.
