I'm not sure what the rules here are on the JQ, but I'm wondering what you all think of evangelicals and their feverish worship of Israel, the state. A highschool friend of mine and I have stayed in touch throughout our years, he was always religious but I never was until I found Christ over this last year. It brought us together quite a bit and we text more often now, it's pretty cool.

At least, it was until we started talking about Israel. He thinks they have a right to do whatever they are doing over there and push palestinians out. Please note that the focus here isn't about Palestinians or Israel's citizens with regards to that conflict, but this kneejerk reaction from evangelicals about Israel not only being the Israel mentioned in the bible but requiring homage and aid to said state.

Why are they like this? Do they not know the content of the Torah and Talmud volumes? They seem to swing the door open for anyone and anything and believe Jesus never got angry, nor rebuked anyone for any reason. It's really maddening to see everywhere.

As a former, they are obsessed with the End Times, to the point of preaching about the end of the Mayan Calendar.

They blindly support Isreal because they believe it is necessary for Christ to return. Its not btw.

It's because if you read the Bible you know Israel is an important and holy thing, hence Catholics and formerly protestants claiming to be the true Israel. If there's a landmass named Israel and the current state of your religion doesn't call you an Israelite guess what you'll assume is the real Israel.

There's some confused people who half (or more) worship that state; long historical thing to explain it all. There's also a strain of Protestantism who…probably ultimately doesn't care about them but want them to build the Third Temple so we can get a jump start on the end of the world. That last one I personally put in the "putting God to the test" category myself, but whatever.

It really is strange how people who pride themselves on being "Bible believing Christians" can read the Bible and somehow not pick up that "Israel" refers to the spiritual body of believers in Christ, not the nation state. These people don't seem to realize that Israel as a nation didn't exist from 70AD to 1947, almost 1900 years.
