The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

>If you confront a bully and let him punch you again he will stop doing it

What did they meant by that, I think there is more than enough empirical evidence that they become even crueler and it doesn't get better.

You fight back by not beating them up.

In your mind, that is. In reality it gets worse for you.

You have to fight back, anon. You probably won't kick their ass, but they'll appreciate the effort at least. In time they'll relent.

b632ab  No.689801

I think this verse is taken out of context a lot.

Keep in mind that fighting back also provoked bullies, because it is more fun for them. If their prey squirms a little before the kill, they like that.

Christ meant this in relation to worldly powers that are beyond our control; i.e. police, armies, that when fighting is futile don’t squirm under indignation but maintain a purity of spirit. If you are so weak that you can physically not ware off intruders then it is better to accept it than make a spectacle. If you give them no reaction (absolutely none - dead to this world, not even sadness or frustration) they will eventually realize it’s not worth it (and that you’re too crazy to pick on).

However if you are strong enough, then turning the other cheek simply means showing them that it doesn’t matter how they hit you, because it’s not going to affect how you will hit them. All they will see is that it is painful but it means nothing to you, “Go ahead, hit the other cheek too”, so they cannot get off on having power.

Woah, how did you came with something so irrelevant and wrong, the coping is fascinating.

You're either living in a gated community or completely out of your mind.

Instead of flaming you can provide your own answers and make this a better board.

It’s easy to call others crazy but if you provide some comments with helpful substance you’ll be fulfilling the purpose of this board (instead of getting off on your own power, wait…)

From what I understand, "turning the other cheek" means not escalating pointless conflicts or seek revenge, e.g. if someone insults you, you shouldn't insult them back. It doesn't mean that you should proportionally defend yourself against unjust aggression.

Rather strange Jesus would say do unto others as you would have them do unto you and then say don't hit someone back if they hit you. Seems strange a religion followed by muscular white soldiers sounds like a leftist cuck's manifesto. Can someone explain this to me? It sounds like soyous maximus but the followers do not seem to behave as such today and historically.

This is such a difficult part of the bible.

If someone starts bothering you, you must say something "don't do that" even if they don't care about you, being silent means allowing more of it.

What on Earth verse are you even referring to? Do not resist an evildoer? If so, you're interpreting it wrong. Pic related.

You can provide a source, preferably a verse that proves you right.

>>690049

You're clearly aware of its meaning and just pretending or either completely retarded. The only written record of Jesus "fighting" is in the Temple, which has a quite other meaning to it. Resisting evil itself doesn't seem to be about physical being that is. But even then lets say its true, what if you fight the evil and lose, what are you supposed to do, especially when unnumbered and it just get worse for you.

I don't really understand this counter-point. What is the "its meaning?" Was my assumption about the verse we're discussing correct?

We can play semantics with the word "fighting" but what we're talking about is actively working to stop evil versus tolerating. Or, at least, that's what I'm advocating - actively stopping evil.

In your initial post you said:

>If you confront a bully and let him punch you again he will stop doing it

and

>What did they meant by that, I think there is more than enough empirical evidence that they become even crueler and it doesn't get better.

I answered through the picture: Christ wasn't telling you to let the bully hit you again, he was telling you to publicly shame him. Did you read the related picture in my last post? I noted pic related.

So, does that clear up the point I was making? Am I addressing your points? You've been rather unclear as well.

Violence begets violence. Life isn't like a feel good Hollywood movie. The bully won't learn a valuable life lesson if you punch them in the face, they're going to get their friends together and beat the shit out of you when you're vulnerable. What then? Violence always leads to escalation and when violence escalates it leads to people dying. People who get humiliated by getting punched get angry, that anger manifests in a desire to do harm to the person who assaulted them. They do and the cycle repeats.

Someone needs to take themselves out of the cycle. And someone did. His name was Jesus. Will you be the Jesus in the cycle of violence you're in, or will you continue to perpetuate it because your pride is hurt?

Letting yourself get hit is one thing, being hit while doing your utmost to find a way to stop it is different.

Not choosing direct violence is Christian - although Christ didn't condemn soldiers for being soldier, he just told them to be content with their wages. Violence in an official capacity seems different.

Correct.

This thread's purpose is deliberate misunderstanding.

>telling you to publicly shame him

I think you need to be on some really good strain to say something like this, or have never experienced bullying and think your soccermom tier ways work.
