The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Jesus' sermon on the mount is the probably the most important teaching of Jesus yet virtually all of us has ignored it. I know this because we are at our computers typing away. Remember you cannot serve God and money at the same time; we have placed our trust in money to provide for us not God. As Christians we should be living in poverty trusting that God will provide for us.

God does provide by giving me a job so I can make money to spport my family. we should give enough charity so that it does cause us discomfort but not so much that we can't feed our children and have homes and create safe, happy spaces for our families.

I agree with this, although from the Sermon I draw a more radical message. God does provide. I have been poor all my life, and the amount of providence I've seen is amazing. God will not let His children starve when it is not their time yet. I also believe that if you have your needs met (aka you will not die from not having the thing. I don't consider a bed a need, multiple rooms a need, many clothes a need, TV, etc), spending any more is theft.

I agree somewhat but I think when you have a family it becomes a very different situation. Kids don't necesarrily need their own room but you should at least seperate the boys and the girls and the babies. Babies should have a space to sleep in that lowers their risks of SIDS. Educating your kids with books and instruments and such is fine. Having a nice family dinner is okay, as long as you welcome everyone. Our whole family shares a computer and that isour only media device in our home. We definitely limit clothes and such. But there is nothing wrong with having adequate land and a house for your family. God doesn't hate materialism or he wouldn't have made us the universe and us, his children out of matter. As long as you thank him for what you have and don't want more than you have and make sure you go without and teach your child to go without at times, it is okay to have more than you need.

Christians die of starvation every month

God wants you to live in the way that allows you to best practice and spread the faith. God does not call all to poverty. Were Solomon or David poor?
