I was once an atheist like the OP, and am now a saved Christian, try to approach them with some kindness before assuming it's just a troll. This placed used to be warm to possible conversion, this placed converted me, and it's sad to see it lose itself to Image board jadedness.
>How can I join them in abandoning worldly distractions if I have forsaken God and God has forsaken me?
The world is "conquered" because of Satan, not God, he hasn't forsaken you, there is always a choice with God. I would say that you can't really "join" a Christian group, and simply not participate in what they believe. The peace they feel, and the kindness the can have, it comes from God emanating from their soul. You can "enjoy" a Christian party/event, eat the food and socialize but you will only see what is at face value.
My advice would be find a pastor (or someone who has studied the bible/theology at an university level) you can talk to, or that you enjoy talking to, and get rid of every atheist question you have.
