this is a horrible solution. lest japan is willing to sacrifice it's birthrate and thus people even further to devote all it's energies to monasticism, which i doubt

Not suggesting to not procreate but to say it's an obligation is also dishonest. St. Augustine having been a Manichaean had very anti-procreational views. The Aramaic and pan-Semitic word for fornication looks identical to a word for "kind", "type", "species", "sort" etc. i.e. "breed". Also I think orthodox priests are allowed to marry but not sure about the monks.
