He's a smart guy, I used to watch him a lot when I was younger, and my little brother also watches a bunch of him. Of course he has his flaws, they are many, but listen to one of his debates he does an excellent job arguing, not all the points he brings up are vaild, but he throws enough good stuff at the other side that they are left speechless.
About the doctor thing, he has a doctorate from a non accredited university which he considers valid because he still studied for years to get it. He however also mentioned that he doesn't expect people to use the title, I think churches use it when advertising his visit to attract a larger audience.
