The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

(Sorry for double posting thread. Wanted to delete other one but it wouldn't let me due to "password changed". Hopefully mod can remove it.)

Wasn’t expecting to be as absorbed in the topic of historical revisionism, but it has caught my curiosity recently when binge watching videos of historical inaccuracies in movies, up to Agora (title meaning “gathering place”/public space in ancient greek city-state).

Released in 2009, the movie didn’t fair well making $39 million box office on a $70 million budget while averaging slightly above 50% in metacritic and Rottentomatoes. The movie eventually depicts a Christian riot that destroyed a serapuem, echoing the fable of Christians single-handedly setting back civilization to the “Dark ages” by destroying the last surviving knowledge salvaged there from the Library of Alexandria (which was damaged previously in Caesar's Civil War) despite the lack of evidence the salvaged books were destroyed in the riot let alone even present in the serapuem at the time.

I have no issue with historical events of religious fanaticism when they’ve happened but for an event that lacked enough evidence to make this accusation towards Christianity, it actually surprises me of how many of the “new atheist” type even up to now take this shit at face value and defend their cursing of Christianity for this event like it’s the atheist’s equivalent of the denial of Christopher Columbus true history.

This is reminiscent to fictional interpretation of the “dark age” and while it’s nice to see in non-religious forums the “dark age” discounted as a propagandic term of it’s time, there’ll always be that moving fo the goal posts as with the “Agora” movie which was released less than a decade ago.

And who could forget about Christ-Mythers in the past couple decades who peddle books of their take on who they think Jesus was inspired from.

What’s /christian/ “retrospective” opinion on Agora? What other examples of revisionism that misinterpret religion have you seen from movies, documentaries, celebrities, pop-culture, etc recently? Share some links of articles or good channels if you have any.

David Bentley Hart talks about the vilification of Christianity & the Middle Ages in the first chapters of Atheist Delusions. He also has an article about Agora: https://www.firstthings.com/web-exclusives/2010/06/the-perniciously-persistent-myths-of-hypatia-and-the-great-library

Similarly interesting revisionism to add to this are attempts to find continuity errors in the events in the bible.

Towards the end of

is particular interesting, covering attempts to disprove based on not knowing the exact date Jesus was born, compared to other historical figures
