The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

As someone who is considering converting to Catholicism, I was baptized at birth and i have two questions. One, do i have to get baptized again, and if so, do i confess my sins at confession since my baptism at birth or my baptism with the church?

c51d08 No.663485

There is no re-baptizing.

> I was baptized at birth

If you were baptized with the Trinitarian formula (that is, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) there is no need for you to be baptized again. Catholics, Orthodox and almost all Protestants use this formula so you'll be fine

Have you been confirmed into the Catholic church? If not, speak to your priest about RCIA.

If you have, you will need to make a confession to enter into a state of grace to receive Communion

The sins you confess will be the ones since your last confession, and if you can't remember, you will need to examine your conscience fully as suggested in the link.

God bless OP

And remember not to omit any mortal sins. Forgetting them is one thing, but the confessional is a tribunal, if you lie to the judge he won't have mercy on you.

If I were to confess my sins of watching porn, would I have to recount all the details of that porn? (like if you've watched some especially depraved stuff) or is it alright to keep it vague?

I don't want to lie, but I don't really want to recount some of the stuff I've watched in my past.

You have to confess details if they are necessaryto explain the gravity of a sin.

E.g. "I have been violent" can mean punching someone or murder. You have to clarify. In this case Id say you dont have to confess specific details, just that you watched porn. It's up to how you feel really

Not that anon, but I can see it as very embarrassing. Could he just say “I’ve been lustful to some very degenerate material”?

Arguably all porn is degenerate. But I would say that unless you watched some really deprived things like homosexual porn or violent porn, then you ought to confess the specifics of it. But it's not necessary to confess that you watched porn specifically about large breasts.

That being said, dont be scared of confession, it seems scary at first, but once you leave I guarantee that you will feel much better. Getting those sins off your chest is definitely a great experience and frees you in ways I cant rightly describe.

Just to confirm what >>663776 said, details are important to the effect that the nature and gravity of what you did. If you have any doubts about questions like that, ask your confessor or someone with a background in moral theology.
