AO ministeries listens and responds to key elements of Andy Stanley’s sermon “unhooking” the Old Testament from the New Testament Church.

Is it time for a Calvinist containment board?

Who do you think you are?

dff7c8 No.654952

It's kind of funny to me that Reformed apologists like James White would even care about this.

Every Reformed person I know has limited understanding of the OT and insists against doing "works". I've heard from multiple Reformed people that the ten commandments are a useful guide, but they were meant for Jews, not for Christians.

How do Reformed apologists like White square OT context with their horrendous misreading of Romans. No one familiar with 1st century Judaism or the OT can honestly make the mistake of thinking Paul was talking about predestination and faith alone.

>Every Reformed person I know has limited understanding of the OT

Historically reformed churches make use of the OT just as much as the RC, and EO churches.

>Every Reformed person I know… insists against doing "works".

Read John Owens "On the Mortification of Sin" and see if you can still claim this.

>How do Reformed apologists like White square OT context with their horrendous misreading of Romans.

Because Christ has perfectly fulfilled the OT requirements on our behalf.

>the mistake of thinking Paul was talking about predestination and faith alone.

<Romans 4:4-8

(4)  Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

(5)  But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

(6)  Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

(7)  Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

(8)  Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Do you actually know any? Sounds more like fundamental baptist, tbh.

Most of the people I know are Reformed or at least claim to be that way. To be honest, they are all over the place most of the time. I find that to understand Paul the way that Reformed people do, though, means misunderstanding Israel's covenant relationship. Romans is very clearly about the Jews and gentiles. And reading it in a reformed way loses the meaning of "works" as Paul refers to it.
