The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

What would exactly constitute a "just" revolution or rebellion? Would revolutionary tactics such as assassination or bombings be forbidden? What would be the requirements for a "just" revolution to be considered?

I'm sure most of us would consider the Cristero, Vendee, and Shimabara rebellions to be "just", but what about groups using "dirtier" tactics, such as the anti-abortion Army of God?

Good question, I don't know

Aquinas' Just War clauses would apply, which means ambushes would be okay under the right circumstances. To make such a rebellion just, though, would have to be a dire situation.

Is the rebel legally bound to break any of the 10 commandments, directly or indirectly? Does the governing body itself regularly do so, and rule unjustly? Those should be reason enough.

Rebellion is form of war. There are just wars (see >>649382 >>649383 >>649384 ) so just rebellion have to have something to do with them. Just cause and rightful intention is easy to obtain. But rightful authority? Just rebellion cannot be Sedition or Strife, for they are always mortal sins. Morover as the Saint Doctor says “If there be not an excess of tyranny it is more expedient to tolerate for a while the milder tyranny than, by acting against the tyrant, to be involved in many perils which are more grievous than the tyranny itself.”

Rebellion is just when there is a concerted effort in the state against them, their people, their liberty, or their property.
