Was it a mistake to let Anglican priests join The Church?

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –A Catholic priest in Indianapolis is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting his wife on Sept. 24, 2017.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained Tuesday, Father Luke W. Reese, 49, assaulted the woman after he found out she was having an affair. In the court document, the victim claims she was in the backseat of a vehicle with the man when Reese arrived and told her to get out.

In the document, the wife says Reese then drove them around the city as he hit her and blasted heavy metal music. The two then went to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Indianapolis, where the woman claims Reese made her kneel at the altar, said he could choke her, slammed her into a wall and hit her head against their vehicle before leaving, the affidavit says.

Reese then reportedly drove his wife to Auburn to “make her tell her 90-something-year-old grandmother what she had done by talking to another man.”

When the couple got home, the woman claims Reese ripped off her clothes, tore up her outfits “that he thought were slutty,” and forced her to have sex, according to court documents.

Shortly after the alleged assault, the Holy Rosary Catholic Church released a statement in its bulletin announcing that Reese would take a leave of absence for a few months.

“This past Monday, Father Reese notified me that he was experiencing some personal and family issues which would require a greater amount of his attention,” read the message to parishioners. Further down in the message, parishioners were asked to respect Reese and his family’s privacy. They were told that if they asked about the leave of absence, they would be told to “mind your own business.”

In a statement released to FOX59, the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter said Reese "was placed on administrative leave on Sept. 27, 2017, when he disclosed actions that resulted in criminal charges related to domestic violence." The Ordinariate also said "it is committed to collaborating with authorities to ensure justice is provided for all concerned, and affirms the Catholic Church’s clear teaching that domestic violence is never justified."

Reese has been charged with criminal confinement, kidnapping, domestic battery, and intimidation.

FOX59 has reached out to the victim’s lawyer for a statement regarding the case.

Reese became the first married priest in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis when he was ordained in June 2016. Reese is a former Anglican priest who was part of a group ordained into the Catholic Church. Pope Benedict XVI established the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter to allow former Anglican priests to join the church back in 2012.

The whore had it coming…

His discipline was not legal, and in that he was wrong, but she'll get worse from God and I don't feel sorry for this particularly, though I do feel for her in that she's a sinner and I would like her to repent.

The priest, well, wrath is a deadly sin to be sure but… considering the circumstances, I don't think it runs as deep as an affair. He kept enough control to let her live- many, many men have failed at that test.

If former Anglican priests as a whole are behaving worse than regular priests then I guess you can conclude that it may have been a mistake. This former Anglican is literally one guy, and so we can hardly draw any conclusions about the rest of the converts. One man is not proof of anything. Also, this man's bad behavior is still considerably less bad than a great many other bad Catholic priests out there. This priest is guilty of beating, degrading and terrifying a woman who may or may not have committed adultery. While his actions were sinful his wife might also be partly at fault. In comparison, there are other Catholic priests (who were never Anglicans) who have raped and molested large numbers of children. In comparison to those bad priests, this one seems like a saint.

He handled it wrong but the punishment was right. He should have taken her straight home and beat the fuck out of her, or just kill her and skip the country.

God commands death for adulterers no "muh freedoms" liberal democracy is gonna tell me different

My take is that his marriage got between him (a priest) and God, which is a shining example of why priests should never marry under any circumstances.

Instances such as this happen all the time with married men of the cloth. I had a friend who became a non-denominational minister. He led a church. One day, his son died of a drug overdose (opiates). This man did not have the courage to go on. He could no longer lead. He put his grief before God. This man should never have had a family!!

> This is proof that priests should never be married!

> “Celibate” Catholic priest rapes children

> ………..

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguing against celibacy or accusing all celibate, it most certainly has its place and there are a great many celibate priests who do a great job in their celibacy and aren’t doing anything perverse. My point is that one married priest beating his wife is proof of nothing.

No. It's weird having priests that are married, but whatever. If the man has a calling, I don't think he, his wife, or the Church should be punished for his past mistakes.

You have it backwards. Adultery is a grave sin. A priest committing rape is a very grave scandal.

This seems a bit too retarded to be true, women have been lying more often than usual in my opinion.

Still, while a man must keep his wife submissive to his will, if this actually happened it would be completely out of line.

What's God's stance on a man that forces himself upon his wife with the condition that that the only orifice this man's penis enters in the vagina and ejaculation is done purely within the vagina? She's still beaten quite viciously during the incident, she doesn't consent to it at all either however, nothing sexually immoral occurs.

Badass.

The prohibition against adultery is still in place. That's part of the Moral Law. Adultery is a terrible sin and should be punished as a crime under the law. It shouldn't be punished with the death penalty, though, which was part of the Civil Law of the Hebrews and never applied to Christian legal systems since we aren't Hebrews. Adultery was illegal in Christian countries until the 1950s.

>It shouldn't be punished with the death penalty

It doesn't have to be. It doesn't have to be punished at all because we have that liberty now. However it should.be punished and it should be punished with death. Why? Because God has shown that that is a suitable punishment for it. You can argue all you want from a secular, enlightenment point of view, but God has told us that it is ok to put adulterers to death so I trust that

c9f8ad No.612907

>>612878

It's okay to put adulterers to death, but they generally shouldn't be because of the incident of Jesus with the adulterous woman. She was guilty (even though there was no due process) but Jesus let her go anyway.
