Are there any good volumes on Church history? I don't want a short book with an overview, I want a big set. I've heard good things about the Philip Schaff History of the Christian Church, are there any good Catholic books like it? I've also heard good things about Warren H. Carroll's Christendom set, anyone know anything about that?

Get the complete Church Fathers. You'll need to build an annex to your house to store it.

Just get the Catholic encyclopedia.

Or if you wanna know why Catholics believe what they do, this is a must read:

I read one by an Anglican priest and I actually thought it was written by an atheist attacking Christianity, included with "The Jesus narrative was probably a collection of various mesianic figures"

I have the Ante-Nicene Fathers, and the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers. My plan is to read Christian history along with them. I've read the full Bible twice, and I'm reading the New Testament for the third time. After I read the NT, I'm gonna read some pre-Christian philosophers (Plato, Aristotle). After them, I plan on reading both Church history and the Fathers. Since I haven't found one better than Philip Schaffs yet, it looks like my reading schedule will be

>History of the Christian Church volumes 1-2

>Ante-Nicene Fathers

>History of the Christian Church volume 3

>Nicene and Post Nicene Fathers

>History of the Christian Church volume 4

I'm then gonna read the Golden Legend and the medieval section of this chart with a few modifications.

I want more narrative history than an encyclopedia, though thank you for your help. I have >>609999 and will probably read it between the Nicene and Post Nicene Fathers and History of the Christian Church volume 4
