Even though Christians and Catholics have a lot of beef between each other, at least we're a lot closer to each other in terms of morality than atheists. They can't even give the basic respect of honoring the dead; I felt sorrow when Mother Theresa passed away as a Christian as well and it does my heart good to see we can at least grieve together.

Amen brother.

It just saddens me deeply to see such a large group of people filled with so much hate.

I would really like to believe that he was the good guy… why is there so much controvery around him?

082ac4 No.608518

>>608512

A lot of it depends on which side you're looking at. He was caught on the Nixon tapes being sort of antisemitic - not harshly, he wasn't screaming about gas all kikes, he was just agreeing with Nixon that Jews control the media - and that got him a lot of backlash; but he offered a sincere apology that was accepted by pretty much everyone.

Some folks don't like him simply for being Christian.

Other folks don't like him because he's the "wrong kind" of Christian.

Some folks hate him for not segregating his church. He let black people pray with white people … in America … in the South … in the 1950s.

I think he was a good guy. He was a sweet and gentle servant of Christ. I'm not of his church or his denomination, but I recognize his passion for Christ and his love for all of Creation.

d5b277 No.608521

I became a christian in august, and this is the first i've heard of him.

The main criticism I have heard is that he claimed people could be part of the body of Christ without being conscious of it or even consciously knowing of Christ. Fundies mocked the remark of the other guy in this exchange saying "there's a wideness in God's mercy", comparing it to this:

Matthew 7:13-15 King James Version (KJV)

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

My family is entirely wrapped around this issue right now. The funeral procession is on multiple screens in the house as I type this. I came here to find out if he was a decent guy or just another (((televangelist))).

He seems to have been a good guy, based on what I'm reading here.

>I came here to find out if he was a decent guy or just another (((televangelist))).

He led many to Christ, and he was not a judaizer. That puts him above 99% of televangelists and pastors in America, sadly. That said, he was someone who knew how evil the Synagogue of Satan is and how much control they have on our society. He completely failed to use his platform to educate people and try and help this situation.

All that said, RIP.

>"The authority of the Magisterium extends also to the specific precepts of the natural law, because their observance, demanded by the Creator, is necessary for salvation. In recalling the prescriptions of the natural law, the Magisterium of the Church exercises an essential part of its prophetic office of proclaiming to men what they truly are and reminding them of what they should be before God," (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2036)

>"The Ten Commandments belong to God's revelation. At the same time they teach us the true humanity of man. They bring to light the essential duties, and therefore, indirectly, the fundamental rights inherent in the nature of the human person. The Decalogue contains a privileged expression of the natural law: From the beginning, God had implanted in the heart of man the precepts of the natural law. Then he was content to remind him of them. This was the Decalogue," (CCC 2070).

>"The Council of Trent teaches that the Ten Commandments are obligatory for Christians and that the justified man is still bound to keep them;28 the Second Vatican Council confirms: "The bishops, successors of the apostles, receive from the Lord . . . the mission of teaching all peoples, and of preaching the Gospel to every creature, so that all men may attain salvation through faith, Baptism and the observance of the Commandments," (CCC 2068).

<You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.

<for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

<For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

<Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. 3I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law.

<For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

<I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel

It is either all faith or all keeping of the law, not a mixture, a sinner can not have 99% Grace and 1% works because if that 1% works is counted, then the sins must be counted also.

Ergo, if Roman Catholicism does not have the Gospel, good news, the atonement of our sins through grace by faith (ephesians) by Christ, then an RC can not by the definition, be christian?

circumcision is a part of the Old Covenant, but Law is nonetheless universal

f9171c No.609925

>>609745

>It's "Works of the law=works of the grace" episode again

From Galatians alone:

1:6 I wonder that you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ, unto another gospel

3:3 Are you so foolish, that, whereas you began in the Spirit, you would now be made perfect by the flesh?

4:8 But then indeed, not knowing God, you served them, who, by nature, are not gods.

9 But now, after that you have known God, or rather are known by God: how turn you again to the weak and needy elements, which you desire to serve again?

10 You observe days, and months, and times, and years.

11 I am afraid of you, lest perhaps I have laboured in vain among you.

15 Where is then your blessedness? For I bear you witness, that, if it could be done, you would have plucked out your own eyes, and would have given them to me.

16 Am I then become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

17 They are zealous in your regard not well: but they would exclude you, that you might be zealous for them.

5:1 Stand fast, and be not held again under the yoke of bondage.

4 You are made void of Christ, you who are justified in the law: you are fallen from grace.

6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision: but faith that worketh by charity.

7 You did run well, who hath hindered you, that you should not obey the truth?

8 This persuasion is not from him that calleth you.

13 For you, brethren, have been called unto liberty: only make not liberty an occasion to the flesh, but by charity of the spirit serve one another.

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

15 But if you bite and devour one another; take heed you be not consumed one of another.

16 I say then, walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the spirit: and the spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary one to another: so that you do not the things that you would.

18 But if you are led by the spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury,

20 Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects,

21 Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is, charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, longanimity,

23 Mildness, faith, modesty, continency, chastity. Against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ's, have crucified their flesh, with the vices and concupiscences.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26 Let us not be made desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying on another.

6:1 Brethren, and if a man be overtaken in any fault, you, who are spiritual, instruct such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

7 Be not deceived, God is not mocked.

8 For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that soweth in the spirit, of the spirit shall reap life everlasting.

9 And in doing good, let us not fail. For in due time we shall reap, not failing.

10 Therefore, whilst we have time, let us work good to all men, but especially to those who are of the household of the faith.

>we're a lot closer to each other in terms of morality than atheists

"a lot closer"?!

Fug, m8, I would think the people in North Korea and America are "a lot closer to each other"

We're comparatively neighbours, we Christians, whether we love each other or not, even like each other or not, we'll be sharing the same gilded streets, eat from the same tree of life, the same God we will worship face-to-face … Neighbours don't have to get along to be neighbours.

Indeed, we're even more than neighbours, we're brothers, for we all share the same Father.

9a9221 No.611308

>>611299

>Indeed, we're even more than neighbours, we're brothers, for we all share the same Father.

Anyone who is actually found in Christ is even more than that: we are all members one of another in the body of Christ, and He is our head. There can be no division in the body of Christ.

OTOH, Not everyone who says to Him, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of Jesus' Father Who is in heaven.
