Technically, we ask the Blessed Virgin Mary to pray for us.

Remember to note the difference:

>dulia

>hyperdulia

>latria

I am not lying about praying to Mother Mary.

Regarding "lying", in my life I generally try not to lie.

I have never heard those terms from the Roman Catholic Church.

>I have never heard those terms from the Roman Catholic Church.

A lot of our theology is misunderstood by most other Christians. :)

Question: What do you think about Catholicism? Have you ever thought about converting?

Good! My question: why haven't you begomed yet?

11f41b No.604990

I was raised Roman Catholic.

I like the Church in a lot of ways. In other ways I dislike the Church.

I still go to mass every once in a while but I was "re-baptized" in a Baptist church and consider my outlook and theology to be primarily Baptist.

Interesting. A lot of us here are converts to Catholicism from Protestantism, so feel free to ask us to clarify any doctrines or troubles you might have with the Church. I don't want to pressure you into anything.

I think it's wonderful that you still attend mass sometimes. You make a better effort than a lot of actual "Catholics", lol.

May God bless you.

Another question: what do you think about Pastor Steven Anderson? I know that he's a hot topic here among some of the Baptists, but I've seen on other forums how some Baptists try to distance themselves from him.

How isn't it oraying to her? That doesn't make anysense, you do both.

0c5a7d No.605006

>>604981

Praying = petitioning

So yes, we do pray to her, just like we pray to anyone when we need to ask them something.

1cbee6 No.605010

>>605002

Well, a lot of people believe that we give the same reverence to saints or the Virgin Mary that we give to God. That's why I mentioned the terms.

>>605006

Yes, but I don't like to use the word "pray" around non-Catholics because they will automatically assume we regard the saints the same way as we regard God.

11f41b No.605020

What brought me to Mary was my love for her, or for what I thought were manifestations of her.

The response I felt that I was getting from God was like, "This is my gift to you, and to many other people. My Mother."

Sort of like how God sends angels to people.

11f41b No.605024

>Here is some scripture I think touches on the subject of "the cult of Mary"…

¶ Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection, and they asked him, saying,

19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a mans brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first tooke a wife, and dying left no seede.

21 And the second tooke her, and died, neither left he any seed, and the third likewise.

22 And the seven had her, and left no seede: last of all the woman died also.

23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

24 And Jesus answering, said unto them, Doe ye not therefore erre, because yee know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage: but are as the Angels which are in heaven.

26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the booke of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isahac, and the God of Jacob?

27 Hee is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: yee therefore doe greatly erre.

I think I trust the Chruch's judgment for themselves. Perhaps not for others but for themselves.

I view the Church as an extremely efficient Sanhedrin or an extremely efficient bureaucratic machine.

I figure if something is part of their dogma, they have a reason for it. They have been calling councils and debating dogma for hundreds of years.

I don't consider myself to be Roman Catholic or Orthodox but I have respect for a lot of what they do.

I see. Well your devotion to Mary definitely sets you apart from your baptist brethren who sadly don't seem to hold her in any kind of high regard. I often here stories of protestants and other estranged Catholics coming back into the Church because of Our Lady, so I hope you will continue praying for her intercession and earnestly seeking after God's Will in your life. Do you also pray the rosary sometimes?

There are "prophets" and "Prophets". The gift of prophecy, and of doing miracles, many sometimes be granted to bad men, as to Caiphas, and Balaam. Under the name of prophets, the Hebrews comprised not only such as predicted future events, but also in general all such as gave themselves out for inspired, or who undertook teaching and interpreting the holy Scriptures; and here by prophesying is understood, in a general acceptation, all public functions, predicting futurity, expounding Scripture, instructing the people, preaching, &c.

But those "prophets" who did not did what they preached are ethier false prophets or true prophets who will be cast into hellfire.

>I'm a baptist who likes praying to mary more then jesus

Throw away the vain traditions of man and pagan practices, I do not hate Catholics but the fact that they think you have to be in THERE church to be saved and how THERE church can do no wrong is disturbing and quickly leads to foolishness when you disregard what the bible says.

>Mark 7:9 And He said unto them, “Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

>Mark 7:13 thus making the Word of God of no effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered. And many like things do ye.”

>Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, following the tradition of men according to the rudiments of the world, and not in accordance with Christ.

>Jeremiah 7:18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger.

>Luke 11:26-28 Then he goeth and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”

And it came to pass, as He spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice and said unto Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore Thee and the breasts which Thou hast sucked.” But He said, “Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God and keep it.”

I love this: Western denominations think that Orthodoxy and Catholicism treat saints and Mary as God..because that's the impression they got. Still Catholics always get the worst of it because….muh Catholics. Believe/do the same thing as Orthodox, just state you're Catholic and you'll see that Prots squirm.

Catholic explains it is not so, most Prots take it as an excuse to hide the true intentions, do not believe it..you know just because Caths

Orthodox explains it is not so, some Prots take it and then go on complaining 'why Catholics never say this'.

The distinction is quite clear all it takes is to actually read/listen to the doctrine, not just take it from someone else 'You know those catholics do this and that…'
