It's historically accurate depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. All the wounds shown in the movie are the same as those on Shroud of Turin.
What Mel Gibson was aiming for wasn't murderporn but historical accuracy. Goes to show how far sick bastards will go in order to project their own perversity onto others.

>“James Faulkner is to Paul as Christopher Reeve is to Superman,” says Caviezel. “This guy was born to play Paul. When he was walking around, it was in his behavior. You couldn’t find someone else who organically nails it like this.”
>“In Passion, I was Jesus, the central figure,” he says. “But in this film, as Luke, I (essentially) get to play Aaron next to Moses.”
>Caviezel, who has starred in CBS crime drama Person of Interest since 2011, plans to return in Mel Gibson's follow-up to Passion, which hasn't yet set a production date. He found inspiration in writer/director Andrew Hyatt’s faithful approach to telling the story of Paul, a major figure in Christianity, but has turned down a lot of Bible stories since Passion.
>“It’s like, 'We want to change this, pull that out,' ” says Caviezel. “I’m like, 'This book has been around a lot longer than any of us in Hollywood. I have the faith to believe it’s still good for us now.' That’s one of the greatest things about (Paul). You don't realize it, but it's actually scriptural.”

I rewatched the movie last night, so it’s fresh in my mind
1. There is no gore in the movie until the one hour mark, and it’s only two hours long
2. Despite South Park’s criticisms, the movie is interspersed with scenes of Jesus teaching
3. The gore in the movie isn’t excessive or drawn out, like it is in actual gore porn like SAW. It is bloody, but it’s depicting a crucifixion. Despite what Last Temptation shows, crucifixions aren’t bloodless affairs that are finished in a few minutes
4. The movie has the sweetest depiction of Mary and Jesus’s relationship I’ve ever seen
5. The movie ends with the resurrection. It’s not a “snuff film” as people say

7e93d6 No.598875

The full scourging scene is the worst in terms of gore, and it’s five minutes long. After that, it’s like any other crucifixion movie but Christ is covered in blood. There’s also an unrated version that cuts out five minutes of gore, that Gibson made for evangelicals who wanted to use the movie to teach but didn’t want to show all the gore

Actually, I decided to look it up to make sure I had the time right. The entire whipping and scourging sequence is ten minutes long, and that’s the longest sequence of gore in the movie. After that, there’s a mocking scene where the Romans beat him and place the crown of thorns on his head. That scene isn’t really gory, but it doesn’t offer any relief after the gore we just witnessed. The whipping-scourging-mocking sequence is 15 minutes in length, running from 53:00 to 1:08:00, before the ecce homo scene which truly has no gore at all.

Guide to movies based on The Bible

>The Prince of Egypt (1998)
Pretty good tier:

Not really great movies, but nothing too bad-tier:

Heretical/blasphemy tier:
>Noah (2014)
>Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014)
>The Last Temptation of the Christ (1988)
Add to this list, cause this is incomplete. I still haven't seen King of Kings, The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Gospel According to St. Matthew, The Bible: In The Beginning…, The Nativity Story, and countless other movies based on Biblical stories. We can make it a little chart at the end
