Thought I'd share this and someone might learn a thing or two
So today I recieved a second degree relic ex indumentis (fragments of clothing) in a rosary from a friend
The relics are from 2 Polish Franciscan Martyrs, Michał Tomaszek and Zbigniew Strzałkowski, who were killed while on mission in Peru, at the hands of the local Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path), a communist militant group formally known as the "Communist Party of Peru".
In 1991 while on mission in a town called Pariacoto, they were threatened by the group and when they refused to leave, they were executed by shots in the back and in the back of the head.
After their deaths they recieved the highest award of Peru, The Order of the Sun of Peru.
Their beatification process started in 1996. In February 2015, Pope Francis declared them martyrs and giving them the title Venerabilis Dei servus (Venerable Servant of God). The beatification took place in December that same year, in the Peruvian town Chimbote, by Cardinal Angelo Amato the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints at that time. From that day on they have the title of Blessed. Their remains lay in the church in Pariacoto.
For those who don't know what a second degree relic means, here's an overview:
・ First-Class Relics: items directly associated with the events of Christ's life (manger, cross, etc.) or the physical remains of a saint (a bone, a hair, skull, a limb, etc.).
・ Second-Class Relics: items that the saint owned or frequently used, for example, a crucifix, rosary, book, etc. Again, an item more important in the saint's life is thus a more important relic. Sometimes a second-class relic is a part of an item that the saint wore (a shirt, a glove, etc.) and is known as ex indumentis ("from the clothing").
・ Third-Class Relics: any object that is touched to a first- or second-class relic.
>tfw you leave communist Poland only to get shot by communists in Peru
