Generally speaking does asking God for forgiveness work by itself? Or do you have to perform acts of contrition afterwards? Like paying someone back, or apologizing, or telling a girl you had lewd thoughts about her.

Seems like it would make sense, but it's also a hassle.

Every wrong needs to be corrected. If you can't, for example because the one you trespassed against died or moved somewhere and you can't find him anymore, then you will need to talk to your priest and ask God even more for forgiveness.

I mean additionally to Confession, of course

Sins have to be paid for.

The only payment the FATHER accepts is the Blood of the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

That payment is applied when one confesses JESUS as their Lord.

So I can steal someones money, confess, and its all good, I can keep the loot

56cc97 No.595416

>>595391

No. First of all, undo the wrong. Second of all Confession is just telling someone what you did. For the Absolution, however, you need to regret it sincerely. Just saying "ehrm yeah yeah I'm sorry" doesn't do anything. If the regret is true and sincere, then np, otherwise any atonement is worthless in the spiritual sense. Of course if you steal from someone, you give it back.

remember zaccheus, the tax collector who climbed the tree to see jesus walking and whom jesus dined with that night?

zach followed the law, to the letter, repaying those whom he could find out of those he cheated, and gave alms

it was after that, and only after that, that jesus forgave his sins

tough topic ?

174212 No.596332

No, if you honestly asked for forgiveness you would be regretting what you did, and if you regret the action how can you possibly, in good consciousness, live with the gains you have received from the act you are now regretting.

An insincere act of confession (still being ok with what you did even though you're saying you're sorry for it) is dishonest and literally trying to lie to God.

Being omniscient, He will know whether your confession is sincere or not, and act accordingly.

The thing is, I don't think anyone practices this today. Protestants don't do Confession at all. As I understand it, the Orthodox prescribe penance-like works after Confession not as repayment but as a healing measure for the penitent himself. From what I know about Roman Catholicism, the priest will make the penitent say a few prayers, hardly equal repayment for sins that would otherwise result in eternal conscious torment.

What a crock of shit. Everything that's ever been said about this points to an attrition towards enlightenment, not moral fortitude.

Christianity is a lie made for profit, do you think that priests are just the moral arbiters of society? No.

read augustine's confessions then you can segway over to bertrand russel if you really wanna get cucked.

The only thing that matters is money and what u do with it.

True being a part of christian groups can up your spirit and kindness, but to each his own; being friends with wall street barbarians will make you a cold, greedy cuck-goblin.

Unless you bought 200 bitcoin in 2010, and let it ride until today. But even so I don't feel the need to buy things. I desire all kinds of things, but I'm old enough to realize that responding to the ego will make things worse. There is really only one rule in life; just don't make things worse than they already are, and you will be happy enough. :D
