Modern scholars say he was born at Nazareth and theh claim the early church said he was born in Bethlehem so they could make an ancient prophecy seem correct. thoughts?

There is no source of evidence he was born in Nazareth. They have no evidence he was born there, they just assume the gospel writers are lying about him being born in Bethlehem. Unless they can provide evidence of either dishonesty by the gospel writers or or a birth record for Jesus that says he was born in Nazareth, it’s all hearsay that contradicts the majority account

Bethlehem.

Bible scholars like to focus on what they call the "Historical Jesus" i.e. not going off of Scripture but purely on other means of historical data. So Roman and Herod-period artifacts. So Jesus of Nazareth to them would've been born in Nazareth but even that is without proof.
