>Le carbolic acid meme
Seriously has nobody on this board ever worked with acids before themselves?
Acids don't make holes they make burn spots.
Bloody hell the idiocy on this board…
Not even because it's Padre Pio (bless his soul though) but because niggas on here are so gullible as long as it proves their point.
I'm going to disprove this shit once and for all here, someone better screencap this shit for future use against stupid niggas.
Carbolic acid is an organic acid knows as phenol.
All organic acids are weak acids, like really weak.
To compare your vinegar salad dressing contains up to 5% ethanoic acid a.k.a. acetic acid, and it only tastes sour.
If you'd do the same with a 5% sodium acid solution you'd be pouring something akin to gastric acid over your bloody vegetables.
To give an idea how weak phenol is I'm going to compare them with the pKa values which you can search for yourself too.
Basically (no pun intended) the bigger the pKa the weaker the acid is.
HCl a.k.a. hydrochloric acid is -7, shit's dangerous.
This will dissolve a lot, and even a bit will cause black burn stains from dissolving matter on clothes or gloves after a minute.
CH3COOH a.k.a. acetic acid is 4,74; that's very weak but is very handy in chemical analysis reactions where you need to dissolve insoluble salts back to cations while not interfering much with the pH or turning other molecules in different ones like CrO4 -> Cr2O7 or something.
Now the moment we've all been waiting for; Phenol has a pKa of….9,95.
Yeah, 9,95. Sure it's still acid but don't even think that this gets used a lot for anything.
Why do you think that it was used as a disinfectant? It's poisonous and a very VERY weak acid so it would kill pathogens but not burn the skin much.
From now on I'm just going to report anyone stupid nigga to lazy to do research themselves and spouts "muh carbolic acid!".
Spoiler related, don't think that Padre Pio's hands looked like this right?
