87cbf3 No.577992

I was an lapsed Catholic, but am thinking of getting back to the Church. Today, I went to Mass. When it came time for communion, I knew that I couldn’t receive the Eucharist because I was in a state of mortal sin and needed to go to confession. I decided to go up for a blessing instead, but the person gave me communion even though I had my arms crossed. Not knowing what to do, I stashed the water in my pocket and decided to go to confession later. Unfortunately, the priest was busy and I had to leave because I was with my family. I didn’t tell anyone what happened because I was embarresed, and later missed the only chance I had to go to confession. I now have this communion wafer in my house and don’t know what to do. I can’t throw it away, and I can’t eat it in a state of mortal sin. Would it be wrong to save it until my next chance to go to confession? Is there another way to absolve my sins without a priest? I really don’t know what to do

6c94d1 No.577998

Why didn't you get in the priest line? The EMHC can't give you a blessing.

>Is there another way to absolve my sins without a priest?

Perfect contrition, but (besides when you are in immediate danger of death, if I remember correctly) even if you have it you still can't eat the Eucharist before Confession.

I suppose you should ask this on Reddit's Catholicism subreddit, unlike here they have actual priests and canon law experts.

don't throw it away

Throwing it away isn’t even a consideration. My first hope is to confess ASAP and eat it, and if I can’t do that then my next hope is to give it back. I feel awful and embarrassed about this

Incidentally, should this be one of the things I confess when I go to confession? Is this a sin? If it’s a sin, is there a formal name for something like this?

This is bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.’ The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ So Jesus said to them, ‘Truly truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed’" (John 6:47-55).

"For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, ‘This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant of my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes" (1 Cor. 11:23-26).

Now, confess your sins and receive communion every Sunday. The way to Christ is through repentance and obedience.

2a5986 No.578912

Return it and ask for a Confession. Were you given the Eucarist by a priest or a "eucaristic minister"? Either way, never recieve in the hand. Priests are not allowed to force you to receive in the hand.

There are particles of the body of Christ in your pocket now. I suggest you find a way to clean them out properly.

I'm sorry but I laughed hysterically whilst reading this thread.

Besides the situation being very comedic in itself, you posting about it here and that guy asking why you don't call communion 'He' if it's Jesus, really cracked me up.

I'm a Catholic. I was baptised. I even received communion before having my First Communion because I didn't know better. I had my Confirmation. I've been dealing with an attached demonic entity for some time now and I didn't want to further worsen my situation. Now I'm desperate and considering returning to sincere Catholicism. Is it too late for me? I don't want to lose my soul to a fucking /jp/ meme.

86682c No.579821

>There is no offense, however serious, that the Church cannot forgive. "There is no one, however wicked and guilty, who may not confidently hope for forgiveness, provided his repentance is honest. Christ who died for all men desires that in his Church the gates of forgiveness should always be open to anyone who turns away from sin.

>Jesus' call to conversion and penance, like that of the prophets before him, does not aim first at outward works, "sackcloth and ashes," fasting and mortification, but at the conversion of the heart, interior conversion. Without this, such penances remain sterile and false; however, interior conversion urges expression in visible signs, gestures and works of penance.

>Interior repentance is a radical reorientation of our whole life, a return, a conversion to God with all our heart, an end of sin, a turning away from evil, with repugnance toward the evil actions we have committed. At the same time it entails the desire and resolution to change one's life, with hope in God's mercy and trust in the help of his grace. This conversion of heart is accompanied by a salutary pain and sadness which the Fathers called animi cruciatus (affliction of spirit) and compunctio cordis (repentance of heart).

Why the fuck do you think that would be the case, Christanon?

Do you realize what you have done? I don't think you do, or can.

Confess immediately and do penance for however long you need to until you can have communion again.

>throwing the Body of Christ in the fucking trash

If you want to save yourself some embarrassment, you can bury the sacred host outside. There is a spigot in the back of my church that runs directly into the ground–not into a sewer, that is used to dispose of the extra Sacred Blood from masses.

At least, that's what I remember from the class I took before becoming an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.
