They're your family. You don't have to take part in the game, but at least enjoy your family. There will be LARPers saying you should rebuke them and stone them and slap them around or whatever, but they're your family.

I grew up in a family that had regular Christmas debates on abortion and things of the like. I didn't always agree with them, but I stood my ground and still enjoyed a nice Christmas dinner. Just be you and do what you do but through your strength you may show them the right path. You're an ambassador, not a warrior.

Politely decline. My family has a tradition of watching old football games on Christmas Eve, and I've respectfully backed out most of the time because it's not my cup of tea. They were bummed out at first, but being firm and noncombatant about it made them relent.

The norm is not good in this day and age but it isn't anything close to your family either; they are by no means beyond saving and OP is in a prime position to do so if he can just muster a well-prepared argument. I trust OP doesn't have the disposition to dismiss his family or even his friends as things, but many others would, particularly on the chans given how pessimistic about the world we tend to be, and each person dismissed is fish that escapes the net. I deleted my own posts, and I won't make another. I never thought someone on here would in their own judgement condemn my soul to Hell for being a survivor of child abuse and recognizing demonic possession for what it is. Even after I explained that I don't hate anyone and apologized for my initial broad and harsh statements, still I was accused as a sinner and my soul judged by a stranger in the span of a few posts with no questions asked. I see now that imageboards are no place to seek fellowship. It's an unfortunate but obvious truth that I've been overlooking for too long now out of loneliness, but it's time for me to move on. My personal rationalle was simply that he was called his family non-human demons and I kneejerked against his tone because I saw it as uncharitable and dehumanizing. Sin is never justified so I didn't want to hesitate on correcting him, but his family legitimately tortured him and flaunted abominable sins and he believed they had been warped out of humanity, which is actually theologically sound. I was focused on correcting him, not understanding and helping him bear his suffering.

How do you personally apply splinter and timber in regards to things like this? I figured because I didn't have this kind of relationship myself I wouldn't be a hypocrite in condemning him, but as I type that I clearly see how stupid that is and your post makes a good point on how destructive it can be.

OP here, just wanted to thank you all for your advice and your prayers, on this thread and others. You guys are really great.

Anyway, by the grace of God it turns out they didn't even ask me to play. I'll be spending the next Christmas with my soon-to-be wife's family in Mexico, so no more of this any time soon.
