b77b62 No.577707

Every Christmas Eve my family has this tradition of playing Cards Against Humanity. Two years ago, the last Christmas I spent with my family, I was totally atheist/degenerate and didn't really have a problem with it (other than the fact that I thought the whole thing was kind of silly because the whole point of obscene humor is to say something inappropriate at an inappropriate time; if you create a socially acceptable ritual for "being inappropriate" it's no longer inappropriate or even funny, but whatever). Now I'm having second thoughts.

My family has continuously hyping this game up, talking about how much they can't wait to play and how it's gonna be amazing etc. I don't really want to take part in it at all, partially because I think the game is pointless but partially because I think it's sinful as well. I don't really have any guidance on this and I think it might be too late to ask my priest what to do and I feel silly bothering him with this question. I know if I don't play they will likely be upset with me and maybe think I ruined Christmas Eve or something.

Thoughts, /christian/? What do I do?

9496de No.577710

it’s a degenerate Jewish game. tell your family how you feel, if they don’t understand it’s their loss.

c0d9f8 No.577712

They're your family. You don't have to take part in the game, but at least enjoy your family. There will be LARPers saying you should rebuke them and stone them and slap them around or whatever, but they're your family.

I grew up in a family that had regular Christmas debates on abortion and things of the like. I didn't always agree with them, but I stood my ground and still enjoyed a nice Christmas dinner. Just be you and do what you do but through your strength you may show them the right path. You're an ambassador, not a warrior.

There is nothing less subversive and radical than cards against humanity. It's the dominant culture personified, and not that fun of a game honestly

Politely decline. My family has a tradition of watching old football games on Christmas Eve, and I've respectfully backed out most of the time because it's not my cup of tea. They were bummed out at first, but being firm and noncombatant about it made them relent.

Ask to play Scrabble or Pictionary any board or card game that’s not degenerate instead. CAH has only been around for a few years, it’s not like it’s a tradition that goes back to your great-grandmother, so it’s certainly possible to convince them otherwise. Worst case scenario, just sit it out and go for a drive or a walk or something.

OP's parents are not reprobates like yours, they're just normies. The norm is not good in this day and age but it isn't anything close to your family either; they are by no means beyond saving and OP is in a prime position to do so if he can just muster a well-prepared argument. I trust OP doesn't have the disposition to dismiss his family or even his friends as things, but many others would, particularly on the chans given how pessimistic about the world we tend to be, and each person dismissed is fish that escapes the net. You did your best to love your family, but they gave you slings and arrows for it and that's planted a demon of hate in your heart that's clearly causing you pain. People don't write long, revealing posts like that if they aren't looking for help. Your strength under fire is a testament to God's strength and an unshakeable faith, yet this hardness of heart blots out God's mercy and confirms the biases of those who hate us. I'm not calling you a bad person, only God has the right to condemn you, and I know you've heard it a thousand times before, but you need to hear it again. Jesus calls us to love our enemies like he loves you, even as they're binding and scourging you, because only love can transform your sufferings into something of meaning, into a living testaments of God's goodness. I'm sorry though, because I know this post is going to hurt you, and that's not an idea that's sitting well with me right now. If it does, know that God is always with you. I'll be praying for you.

Don't call them posessed; unless they started speaking in tounges and crawling on walls they're just faaaaaaar gone communists. None of what you say about their humanity is wrong but Jesus defines that phenomenon as Children of God vs Children of Satan, not human vs inhuman, and you shouldn't either. If you think that only demons are capable of such depravities then you need to read up on that Herod guy.

>The abuse they gave me has not stained my soul like they wanted it to and like they said it would, and you're carrying their abuse forward as a coparticipant by assuming and insisting that it has.

If you think that me trying to help you recognize your sin is coparticipating in their abuse, then that only proves my point further. You wouldn't be advising OP to hide his candle if you didn't have such horrid experiences in trying to show yours the world. If you think childhood abuse doesn't have lasting, traumatic effects then I'm sorry to say you are lying to yourself because they are clear as day.

I guess I've been really lucky. My family used to laugh at me for going to church and reading the bible, now they are joining me in going to mass this evening. I deleted my own posts, and I won't make another. I never thought someone on here would in their own judgement condemn my soul to Hell for being a survivor of child abuse and recognizing demonic possession for what it is. Even after I explained that I don't hate anyone and apologized for my initial broad and harsh statements, still I was accused as a sinner and my soul judged by a stranger in the span of a few posts with no questions asked. I see now that imageboards are no place to seek fellowship. It's an unfortunate but obvious truth that I've been overlooking for too long now out of loneliness, but it's time for me to move on. Merry Christmas everyone. Goodbye.

Yeah you're being a prude. The lower laws are subservient to the highest law of justice. Enjoy your family. Presumably your dad took his commitment to your mom seriously and raised you so quit being ungrateful.

If you want to be a prude about something, start talking about how the state is destroying he family and enslaving us with fiat currency. After that problem is solved, then you can start harping about a fucking card game.

I understand and I'm sorry if I came off as an ass. I don't reprove you as a judge but as a brother who is seeing another brother hurting and trying to help. If you genuinely don't see hate in your heart and pray for your family than I trust you, and if that isn't the case I shouldn't condemn; I often dismiss my Dad as an asshole even though im at his house right now dor Christmas. Thank you for at least posting again for that, im praying for forgiveness. But I repeat, you should not tell christian to hide their faith because of persecution, because he and you are called to blessed for those struggles.

Also yeah, chan's are terrible for dealing with lonliness. If you like this place don't abandon it but there are objectively greener pastures. God bless and merry christmas.

Pardon you had to read that. If it brings you solace, I had to have and still have to hear similar remarks when talking about my cruel past - most people never had real problems, let alone such with their immediate family, so they project their positive image upon us broken people and defend the institution of the family and/or attack us because they see their parents/family as a divine entity. Mankind is bio-psychologically hardwired to praise and obey their parents, hence we will never be understood by those who never had to fight and abandon their very natural urges - we have gone through hell in order to not rationalize what has been always harmful and at the same time yet so dear to us.

Merry Christmas, fellow anon! I shall include you in my prayers. And if you still seek fellowship here, I'd be more than glad to keep company and listen to your story.

3caba7 No.578005

My personal rationalle was simply that he was called his family non-human demons and I kneejerked against his tone because I saw it as uncharitable and dehumanizing. Sin is never justified so I didn't want to hesitate on correcting him, but his family legitimately tortured him and flaunted abominable sins and he believed they had been warped out of humanity, which is actually theologically sound. I was focused on correcting him, not understanding and helping him bear his suffering.

How do you personally apply splinter and timber in regards to things like this? I figured because I didn't have this kind of relationship myself I wouldn't be a hypocrite in condemning him, but as I type that I clearly see how stupid that is and your post makes a good point on how destructive it can be.

>How do you personally apply splinter and timber in regards to things like this?

Unfortunately I have to disappoint since I cannot answer this question properly. As aforementioned, emotional finesse, plain empathy would make one able to detect another one's genuine suffering. Many people do not have that gift though, and as far as I have learned only those who have suffered are able to empathize deeply - or some faggots - to anyone, but even those are only a part of those who had gone through hell because only that certain fraction learns to minimize (unnecessary) pain through mutual understanding in as good as every verbal and non-verbal facet. Usually, I look at one's face, listen to one's voice and/or observe one's demeanor and know immediately if they ever had the need to kill his own emotions in order to cope with his tremendous sorrows he experienced or is experiecing at the moment. Simply put: pay attention as to why someone looks and behaves a certain way, but I don't think my bit of advice is sufficient. Just never forget to ask yourself: "Why are the things and people as they are? Why?"

In this day and age, or even generally, people never ask themselves: Why? Instead assume to know it better for their own convenience, never out of benevolence.

Suggest a better game, and if they insist on that one, go do some chore instead while they are playing it. And if anyone asks, tell them it bothers you to play that on Christmas, since that's your honest opinion.

Man, sorry to hear that anon. You did the right thing.

I ended up doing something similar – over the course of 2 days they must of played 6+ hours of Cards Against Humanity, by the tail end of it my wife and I decided to take my little brothers upstairs and watch My Neighbor Totoro with them (we got them it for Christmas). Even though one of them's older (9 years old) and they've both been exposed to degenerate youtube culture, they still loved the movie. The experience made me think kids must secretly be craving the wholesome innocent stuff – I can't tell you how much they loved the movie. It was such a rewarding experience to be able to share it with them.

This is all just to say, kids can be way more fun than adults this time of year – and there's nothing wrong with being wholesome, even if everyone else thinks you're boring /blogpost
