"I was catholic for decades and decided to become an apostate because of the current Pope".
I translate for all the brainlets:
"I was never catholic and now I took the opportunity to sack what is truly Christian, because I let my ego and perhaps political agenda decide over my faith, not the other way around."
And that, quite frankly, means you have never been Christian, to begin with.

> What do I do?
Now become Eastern "orthodox", to begin with. Because LARPing as a wizard won't bring you anywhere. If you want real orthodoxy AND the Byzantine Rite, you go Eastern Catholic. Orthodoxy is at this point nothing but a political shitfest and they will continue to be like that - perhaps it will even become worse instead of better.
Example: The great schism, the failed mending of he schism in the 1450s, because they were keen to suck Turk-D' instead of focusing on Christ, not being able to set up ecumenical councils (I mean they wouldn't be ecumenical without the Pope or his approval, but let's pretend) over questions of worldy power - "who sits where to express the importance" - the fact that in the "orthodox church" the laity gets to VOTE on dogma, many many instances of high ranked clergy insulting the Pope and the Cahtolic clergy, particular "orthodox" churches that are only recognized by a few while being rejected by others, the Macedonian "orthodox" church struggling for recognition which lead them to BEG the bulgarian "orthodox" church to become their parent church, and last but not least this: http://orthochristian.com/70416.html
Eastern "orthodoxy" is one huge joke and they care for nothing but worldly powers. Sure, the laity might be serious, but I would not want align with a "church" that really is nothing but ethnical clubs. If, of course, you search for political affiliation and cool ethnic clubs, then go for it. But don't call yourself a Christian, please, because this is a mere insult to the Lord Jesus Christ.
