How was mass/church today?

b84696 No.571365

It was somewhat edifying. I got into a arguement with some pagens of the intent of a certain verse. I thought they were christians until they revealed their ignorance or lack of care of what God says in the Bible. wut about u OP?

pretty good. still kinda new to the church so it's been more a learning experience than anything else these past few times.

15deda No.571415

It was rather nice. Homily was about the Church not bending to the world, which some might say is ironic because it was novus ordo, but it was in the context of Christmas, encouraging us to celebrate it on our own terms and times contrary to what popular culture dictates.

Man this sounds so comfy, I honestly prefer that style of church where the sermon is more of a group discussion but I can't get behind the theology.

Far more separate then I would like. But hey, that's what you get in the age of divorce?

A friend who I've been helping introduce to the Word came to my church for the first time today. He doesn't normally go to church on Sundays, rather going to worship at other points in the week. Message was good, felt inspired.

It was incredibly pleasant, my first Traditional Latin Mass. In comparison to Novus Ordo, it's relaxing instead of boring, and you really feel like you have some kind of connection.

6ef9e6 No.571541

So-So.

I've been pretty depressed; and wasn't really in a state to receive the Eucharist. Meanwhile; since I brought my mother to a Traditional Latin Mass she's starting to notice all the things that are cringeworthy at the Novus Ordo mass; which is kind of amusing.

b74001 No.571546

>almost dropped the Eucharist

That was terrifying. The communion spoon was too far from me and I had to lean to eat the Eucharist, and it touched my upper lip, and almost fell from the spoon.

On another note, the homily was about asceticism and repentence, and Francis of Assisi was called a saint alongside St. John the Forerunner. Nice detail.

Dropping or having the priest drop the host is absolutely painful for me to see; your heart just stops.

b74001 No.571549

>>571548

Have you ever seen that happen? Lord have mercy.

Although frankly there's one thing I don't get tbh. Why is it allowed for laymen to receive communion in hand? Isn't it essentially no different from eating communion off the floor? Neither supports are consecrated. Catholics keep telling me this is a liturgical abuse, but this is the norm…

I've sadly had the priest drop the Eucharist when going to put it in my mouth; I must've apologized to him about three or four times in a row after mass; that instance still haunts me to this day. Makes me afraid to actually receive sometimes.

As far as why people are suddenly allowed to receive communion in the hand? I'm not entirely sure; it seems to be a NO thing above anything else; because every TLM I've been to it's receiving on the tongue only.

It's one of the things that's been triggering my mother since I got her to attend a couple Latin Masses; now every time she sees people receiving in the hand at the closer NO church we go to, she just winces and shakes her head.

See the good side - accidentally messing with the Eucharist makes us even more so serious about our faith and about Christ. At least I know I've been tense since yesterday…

At NOs, I see maybe a handful of people receive on the tongue, but everyone else receives in hand.

You know, maybe I should just ask a Catholic priest about this one… I know that some Fathers had mentionned that we must make our hands be a throne for the Eucharist (implying reception in the hand), but as far as I know, they'd also use consecrated textiles to have something between their skin and the Eucharist.

I missed mass. Been very sick, sadly. I was physically able to go to mass, but didn't think it was a good idea considering I might be contagious and was running to the bathroom around every 10 minutes. Is it sinful to miss mass if you are sick?

Receiving Eucharist on hand is de jure allowed only in the most unordinary circumstances - for exemple someone is old, sick and trembling and might by accident drop him on floor or break in half.

Why it is so common in USA is beyond me, I myself seen it but once and man who took it was really old and literally trembling.

As John Paul II said, only pirests were consecrated to touch Eucharist by hand.

Listening to an Orthodox priest try to explain a meme to a congregation whose average age is 59 was pretty funny yesterday. Pic related.

There's a song with a nice tune called 'Mary did you know' and the verses are addressed to Mary, asking her if she knew that her Son would walk on water, be the Savior, etc.
