So what happens after death? I've heard your spirit is put to "rest" until the resurrection, but WHAT DOES "REST" MEAN TO A SPIRIT? Are you just turned off until you wake up in a new body and it feels like after an operation?

>So what happens after death?

Proverbs 12:28 In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

It rests from this degenerate world.

Does not mean soul sleep.

Yes.

But it doesn't mean that you'll enjoy to be in presence of God if you are unrepentant if you know what I mean.

So the state of death is akin to sleep. The dead know nothing. The dead do not remember God. The dead do not thank God. The first lie the devil told was "ye shall not surely die". Souls can die. The wages of sin is death. God gives his people a gift of immortality. We are mortal and must 'put on' immortality in order to be immortal. The soul can be destroyed by God. At the last day there will be a resurrection. Christ was the firstfruits of the resurrection.

Believe it or don't, that's what the book says though.

So it is soulsleep?

I wouldn't use that term, it's usually used as a perjorative and isn't technically accurate. But when you die you are truly dead and not conscious until the resurrection. Conditional immortality.

The spiritually dead know nothing. Those who are spiritually alive know God.

>Luke 23:42 And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when thou shalt come into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said to him: Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with me in paradise.

> this day thou shalt be with me in paradise

>this day

There's more to Heaven than simply existing.

Before the Resurrection death had a hold on humanity and the dead lost consciousness; after the harrowing of hell, the dead sleep no longer.

So we just sleep until God says wake up?

d483de No.567558

>Luke 23:42 And he said to Jesus: Lord, remember me when thou shalt come into thy kingdom. And Jesus said to him: Amen, I say to thee this day, thou shalt be with me in paradise.

No commas in Greek. Translators chose where to place them based on their preconceived notions.

>But when you die you are truly dead and not conscious until the resurrection.

So what does that mean, do I just not experience any of the time in between and suddenly wake up in God's kingdom?

d483de No.567576

Basically, that's my understanding.
