Disney was a Christian (though probably mostly cultural) and so were his animators. You can see their influence on animation- such as the Rescuers, where the little girl is kidnapped and prays to God to be saved. Now, after the last of the "nine wise men" (the hand-picked animators) died, it was open season on immorality in Disney. They were always a business first but, starting with The Little Mermaid, they started actively pushing a liberal agenda.

The Magic Kingdom thing though came at a time where the atheists were hard pushing materialism. In response, Christians had taken to magical/mythological thinking as a response. You see this in Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, etc. They went overboard, unfortunately, and it led to the reason/faith divide we see today. At least, that's how I see it.
