I'm an atheist right now, some JWs on the street told me that they don't believe in an afterlife and that evil is corrupting today's society. Is it a bad idea to go to a hall for one of their services and see how it goes? I'd mainly be going for moral guidance and inspiration

dfd3e6 No.561793

Why are you posting this here? JWs aren't even Christian.

bc4d74 No.561802

try a real church lad. southern baptist, latin catholics, or russian orthodox are your only options tbh

>Is it bad to go to a JW "church"

Like >>561793 said, they aren't even Christian.

Also, if you STILL end up going, I hope you like cults, friendo, because you're going to have to get used to one pretty quickly

ecbfca No.561804

>>561799

They worship God and Jesus though

7ee011 No.561806

>>561804

They deny the Nicene Creed and are thus ipso facto not Christians.

>>561804

>God and Jesus

There's your problem right there.

ecbfca No.561809

>>561806

But the Nicene creed is man-made and not God's word

2f6152 No.561812

>>561809

The Creed is literally just citations from the scriptures. It's a TL;DR of the Trinitarian theology in the Bible. If you reject it, you're not a Trinitarian, and so you don't believe in the same God as Christians do, simple as that.

099849 No.561813

>>561791

YES they are a weirdo cult who believe the true church died out and it was miraculously restored to them.

Go to a real church.

099849 No.561815

>>561809

It's the historical understanding of the scriptures of the early church. If you want to be in communion with them, you should be able to pray it cleanly.

7ee011 No.561818

>>561809

Correct, the uncreated Word of God is Jesus Christ and God Himself. The Nicene creed only affirms that.

Oh and >>>/christ/, like we can't tell you're a falseflagging JW.

It’s incredibly dangerous. They are a cult that slowly sucks people in. Trying to go to “just one service to check it out” is like trying to stick a little bit of your dick in a woodchipper. Don’t even check it out. I’ve been to churches outside my denomination to check them out, but I will never fucking step foot in a Kingdom Hall

de8788 No.561837

>>561804

They worship Satan. If you don’t worship the true triune God of the Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, you worship Satan. Catholics, Orthodox and most Protestants worship the same God as me with very different ideals as to doctrine. Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Oneness Pentecostals, Baha’i, Muslims, and Jews all worship Satan.

414568 No.561909

>>561804

they don't worship Jesus tho.

70bdb5 No.561913

>>561909

And if they do then they worship someone who they think is a created being

>I'd mainly be going for moral guidance and inspiration

Would you go to Satan for moral guidance and inspiration? He is the father of lies after all, and these people whom you mention spread his lies and his deceit. Find a good biblical church that upholds the truth (Jesus Christ) and follows the teachings written in the bible instead of a diluted den of snakes and wolves that want to drag you into hell with them.

They use the Bible as their foundation. They can be called Christian.

OP, Jehova's Witnesses are not Christian, just as Jews or Muslims are not Christian. There is more to being Christian than believing Jesus was a cool guy.

The first criterium you need to apply is whether a religion recognizes Jesus Christ as God. Not a god, not a demigod or a divine champion, but the God who has existed before the beginning of time and who created the world. This is already where JWs fall through, they believe in a god they call "Jehova" and that his first and only creation is the archangel Michael who then went on to create everything else. Michael was then later incarnated as Jesus, and after the crucifixion the body of Jesus was destroyed and Michael was restored again.

This is absolute heresy. The archangel Michael is an archangel, not the creator of the world, but a part of Creation. All of Creation comes from God who is a Trinity consisting of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, three persons who are all fully God. Not three gods and not three thirds of one god. All this is found throughout scripture and Church Tradition. The Nicene Creed was formulated as a TL;DR following the heresy of Arius. In that sense you could call it "man-made", but it is not something a committee just pulled out of their ass and then voted on.

>>562015

No, they blatantly re-write the Bible to suit their heresy. This is also why JW members are forbidden from reading anything that opposes the heresy. It is also why JWs always go in groups of two, so they can keep watch of each other. Because the punishment for coming in contact with the Truth is excommunication and since JWs are a tightly-knit group (like all cults) and JW members are forbidden from keeping contact with former members, excommunication means you lose your entire social life.

Rule 3:

3. This is a board for Christian discussion and fellowship. For the intentions of the board, a Christian is one who believes in the Nicene Creed and the Chalcedonian Definition.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not adhere to this and I, along with all of the users here, suggest that you do not join such heresy. Nothing good will come of joining Arianism, trust us.

The NWT isn’t a Bible. This isn’t even KJV-only autism, this is just the truth. The NWT intentionally obscures and mistranslates passages in order to support their weird doctrines. When the translators were made public, it was found out that none of them had any knowledge of Greek or Hebrew and all they had done was take pre-existing English translations and revise them to support their weird doctrines. This shows that the leadership knew what they were wrong about, and chose to just flat out lie. The leadership people are despicable freaks who let children die and are willing to lie to their flock. I won’t say they are just a little misguided, they are outright demons. The people who make up the membership need to be pulled from these demons and put in a good trinity-believing Bible-reading church!

>they don't believe in an afterlife

I don't want to appeal to emotions here but if this is true that's just a sad and hopeless belief isn't it?

ecbfca No.562049

>>562044

Yeah to some it's sad. To others not so much

7ee011 No.562052

>>562044

They don’t strictly believe this; Hell is non-existence, and exactly 144,000 Witnesses (get in quick, seats are limited!) will go to Heaven. All the other righteous will live eternally on a second-class paradise on Earth. And before you ask, yes, the rest of their beliefs are as retarded as their soterology.

560796 No.562055

>>562049

Life without an afterlife seems like shuffling deckchairs on the titanic.

To answer your question I think going to their services once wouldn't be a problem, I don't see any gain from that though, other churches can also give you guidance, have a sound theology and there is no danger of getting into the cult-like trouble.

>>562052

Yeah that sounds more like what I knew about JW, that's not really the same as no afterlife.

0f0b0f No.562318

OP, you're looking for Unitarian Universalism. JW's are too religious for you. I admire their zeal, but if you're going to go to a religious church for guidance… go to a mainstream one.
