Christchan is back up after maintenance! The flood errors should now be resolved. Thank you to everyone who submitted a bug report!

Looking for the alternative reading of this concept:

Romans 12 calls all Christians as individuals to forgive, but Romans 13 affirms the authority of government and government is never called to forgive. Governments therefore can execute criminals or wage war, but individuals can't commit a vigilante honor killing like batman, or the muslim practice of pushing sodomites off of rooftops.

This seems correct, but I'm having difficulty pinning down when the government is legitimate. Did the leadership of a single American Indian tribe have this power? What about a clearly corrupt govt like Zimbabwe after the fall of Rhodesia?

Dr. Jeffress of First Baptist Dallas discussed this topic recently on Pres. Trump's authority to wage war against a threat from North Korea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qldfVMsY1hM

Inejiro Asanuma was a Japanese politician who wanted Japan to follow the practices of the Chinese Communist Party. In October 1960, he was assassinated by a Japanese traditionalist Otoya Yamaguchi to prevent a communist Japan. He did not profess to be a Christian.

If Yamaguchi was sent by an agency of his government, would the assassination have been under the affirmed authority of Romans 13? Was it sinful if he thought up the idea himself?

"No man can serve two masters: for either he. will hate the one, and love the other; or else. he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

Matthew 6:24

Even if its by the authority of the government, I wouldn't want that blood on my hands.

I don't mean to passively dismiss any fellow veterans, it s just a decision I've arrived at over the years.

Are you opposed to capital punishment?

Its never come up on the ballet so I've never had to make a final decision on it. Though I've always held a negative view of it.

And like I said, I wouldn't want to be the executioner.

My earlier post is my personal opinion. I'm not trying to persuade anyone else to my view.

Okay, thanks for your perspective. I'm looking for theological views on the authority of the government, and the Bible is in support of execution in my reading
