Surely the acts of those who followed Peter and Paul are deserving of some mention?

They kept the foundations intact and preached the word to the farther reaches. Their blood cements what would become your rebellion.

One of the great things about the saints is that they often left writings. John Chyrsostom, Augustine, Aquinas, Francis Assisi, Benedict, Teresa Avila, JPII all left writings, sometimes copious tracts. That I feel is the best route to get to now their journey. You could also dive into the Lives of the Saints, which is a compendium of stories collected about each of their lives.
