Who gave Pontius Pilate's wife her dream?

This is a question I came up with when I was a teenager after seeing The Passion of the Christ and have tried to solve on my own to no avail.

Was it God in an effort to see if man could and would change course?

Was it Satan in an effort to stop the crucifixion?

I'd like to hear what other anon's have to say.

> Was it God in an effort to see if man could and would change course?

> Was it God in an effort to see if man could and would change

> Was it God in an effort to see if man could and

> Was it God in an effort to see if man could

> Was it God in an effort to see if man

> Was it God in an effort to see if

> Was it God in an effort to see

this sentence is so messed up it's hard to know where to start, but let's begin with asking the question of whether the Omnipotent God could ever be thwarted in His efforts or not have His will come to pass?

it's a rhetorical question, the answer is: No

the second is like the first; could the Omniscient God not know what is in the hearts of man, and have an absolute knowledge of everything they would do?

same answer: No

anon, God ordained from Eternity that 'The Lamb who was Slain from before the foundation of the world' would die on the cross - God working all things together for the good of those who love Him, decreeing that the inestimable wickedness of men murdering their Creator would bring about the greatest most glorious moment of victory and vindication of the Lord Jesus Christ, and moreover; win to Him a purified Bride of a redeemed people, the Church

this was always the plan

always

how do you not know this?

my last is not a rhetorical question, you need to answer it - not to my satisfaction since i likely won't hang around for the rest of this thread, but to the standard of Scripture which should govern your life

you should take care of the fundamentals before musing on mrs. pilate

Thank you, anon.

The omnipotence of the Deity is not in question nor is the pre-ordained Christ as foretold by the Prophets. Perhaps the way I constructed that question was not satisfactory.

My point is, why did the dream take place? What is the purpose of her dream? Was it to stop the crucifixion or delay it to another point in history?

If the dream has no purpose, why even include Pilate's wife in the Gospels?

Why did Jesus say "eli eli lema sabachthani?"

Trick question, Jesus never said that because He spoke Greek

No m8 he spoke Latin.

I think that even though God knew in advance that Pilate would be forced by the crowd to allow Jesus to be crucified, the fact that someone like Pilate, normally quick to resort to a death penalty, washing his hands from the matter would be remembered.

Surely He spake English.

WRONG. He spoke pidgin, as the angels in heaven

If I recall correctly, Pilate's wife said to Pilate, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man" which led to Pilate's washing his hands of the matter and handing Jesus over to the Jews to be crucified. It was more fitting that Jesus die at the hands of the Jews than at the hands of the Romans, I suppose, since Jesus came first to the Israelites for salvation.

To lend further credence to the fact that it was Jews not Pontius Pilate that crucified Jesus

I dislike how the catechism tries to cleverly skirt around this. A lot of JPIIs catechism is very politically correct and I feel can even lead people to believe in heresy. But it's useful for agnostic liberals trying to approach the church and seeing a fluffy version of it. Seems like this liberal PC version is the stance that Pope Francis is taking too. While I dislike it, he does seem to be attracting atheists and agnostics. But I really don't know if it is enough or worth it.

My problem with this is it begins to sound like the dream was a later addition to justify the "Jews did it" narrative. I'm aware secular Bible scholars think the whole Pilate episode of washing his hands is made-up.

I'm not even sure if I agree with trying to send a "fluffy" version for people. Are you sure you even should do that? What will liberals do when they discover it isn't true, assuming the priests will ever say it isn't true?

Attracting atheists and agnostics to what end? I see a lot of them who are partial to the Pope and quoting him but not converting, am I just not meeting the right people?
