Christchan is back up after maintenance! The flood errors should now be resolved. Thank you to everyone who submitted a bug report!

>looking in to begoming Orthodox

>visit vespers

>end comes and everyone lines up for blessing

>hesitate because not sure if I'm allowed to receive blessing since not an actual member

>priest holds up cross and says blessing

>say "t-thank you" lean in to kiss cross but bump my nose on picture Jesus's belly

>venerate icons of Christ and Mary on way out by making sign of cross and bowing

Since your are new there, everyone knew you were new and it is not a big deal. Don't think too much about it. You know what to do now for next time.

no one corrected me or anything so I don't know what I did wrong though

All inquirers mess up at first, just pay attention to what everyone else is doing. Try to find a friend in the church who can help you along or talk to the priest. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Which denomination are you coming from?

Reformed (Calvinist)

Yeah, Orthodoxy can be a bit of a leap for a lot of Protties. I was Catholic and had to readjust quite a bit. May God guide you well.

>hesitate because not sure if I'm allowed to receive blessing since not an actual member

Anyone can receive the blessing at the end (and you should receive it), you just can't receive communion on Sunday until you're Orthodox.

>say "t-thank you" lean in to kiss cross but bump my nose on picture Jesus's belly

lol even I do that occasionally.

>venerate icons of Christ and Mary on way out by making sign of cross and bowing

This is fine. Many people kiss the icons as well. Do you know how Orthodox make the sign of the cross?

Yeah it's like the Catholic one but mirrored

Yes and we also hold our fingers like pic related.

The three fingers together represent the Trinity, the two fingers directed downward (toard the earth) represent the human and divine nature of God together as one.

I've low key headbutted an icon being held by a priest at a monastery because my sight is already not awesome and the lighting was so dark. When I mentioned it to some long time regulars they said stuff like that still happens to them from time to time. As long as you aren't receiving communion you'll be fine and basically no one will care. If anything the priest might show you more attention now in a good way because he might now know you're new and want to help you along.
