>Watching porn

>people seem to be enjoying themselves

>if they could fornicate forever would they truly be happy and content?

>no, they would be constantly trying to satisfy an eternal thirst, a lust, which can't be satisfied. Their bodies burn the pleasure within moments and it leaves them craving for more, like heroine junkies, the respite only lasts a few hours or days. Their bodies are pleasure destroying machines. So how can pleasure, even eternal pleasure make them happy?

I began to think that hell might not be literal fire and pitchforks, instead God would just let people succumb to their sins/lusts forever, so a sexual deviant would be mired in thoughts of sex, constantly thirsty for more, he would even get it sometimes, but no matter how often he did it, the thirst would return, like a vampire, and he'd have to search for more and more…forever…never finding any peace or true stability.

So there would be no need to add extra punishment to sins because the sins themselves carry their own punishment. When you sin you already experience the punishment itself.

I could give more examples but fundamentally the all deal with some sort of unquenchable thirst, some form of ignorance, that leaves the subject dissatisfied and enslaved.

Maybe I'm just a brainlet, but this could be a nice way to get around atheists who think God is "mean" for punishing people eternally…it's not really God punishing you, he's just letting you succumb to your own ignorance.

saints have said similar things

i believe Catherine of Genoa said that as far as God is concerned the gate of heaven is open but the souls of the damned refuse to enter because God's presence hurts them more fiercely than the fires of hell

but more generally there is a general undercurrent of "sin IS hell", I always think that this is why Jesus is said to save us FROM SIN more often than "from hell".

you can also find this idea heavily in CS Lewis, this is part of why he is so popular. The Great Divorce is a graphic illustration of what the idea could mean in practice.

Hell as I understand is eternal separation from God.

Imagine being in a world where your suffering means nothing and nobody cares at all. You could have all the resources in the universe, but there is no connection possible with anyone.

Those that turned from God, but still have an inclination to help people, can do nothing to help anyone, cutting them off from the satisfaction of helping others.

People that thrive on making others suffer (demons) cannot do anything to make others feel any worse, giving them no reason to exist.

The aim shouldn't be to 'get around' atheist arguments (as they are akin to the other groups that are in open rebellion against the Church, thus they are objectively wrong, although they can obtain lesser degrees of the truth, the Truth is not obtained until they are in communion with It). There is no need to get around apostasy of any kind, but only to pray the rosary for any sort of sinner or heresy or cultural moral pitfalls. That is certainly a component of hell, and one could argue that being denied the beatific vision for *eternity* (something we cannot comprehend) is punishment in itself (although the Church does teach of limbo, where the unbaptized virtuous/unborn children who are killed go to dwell for eternity, they are perfectly happy in the highest capacity thay humans can be, however it is debated whether they will have to wait for the second coming or will just never see Heaven) but hell is much more than that. It is an active torment *on top* of those feelings. The punishments are most likely beyond our comprehension, but it is not merely just a second earth without God.

The descriptions of Hell in the Bible make it sound worse than that.

Also we should stop watching porn. :(

I thought this too, but then I realized there's the extra punishment for doing it. So you get the negative side effects PLUS a whipping.

Raunchiness and sexual deviancy were shameful once. Now, Patrons sought fetishes and immoral sex; and Artists sought profit. Together, they seek to eliminate shame in pursuit of their lust and greed.

This is how a culture fall. This is how the world fall. And this possibly might be how things end. In extreme decadence. The generation of decency will come to pass and the age of deviancy begins. End Times soon?
