I read Matthew yesterday, and Mark today. This will be my third readthrough of The Bible. The first time I read it, I read it linearly Genesis-Revelation. The second time I read it, I followed the one month Bible reading plan. This time, I'm gonna read it New Testament up through Jude, then Old Testament, then Revelation. The first time I read it, it took a year. The second time, a month. This time will probably take a little over a month. It's not too long or too difficult a book to read, stop making excuses

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. There was also the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Generations passed then God who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and gave him the name Abraham. He found Abraham heart faithful before Him, and made with Abraham the covenant to give to his offspring the holy land.

And God saw the affliction of the people of Israel in Egypt and heard their cry at the Red Sea, and performed signs and wonders against Pharaoh and all his servants and all the people of his land, for God knew that they acted arrogantly against the people of Israel. And He divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on dry land, and God cast their pursuers into the depths, as a stone into mighty waters. By a pillar of cloud God led them in the day, and by a pillar of fire in the night to light for them the way in which the people should go.

God came down on Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven and gave them right rules and true laws, good statutes and commandments, and He made known to them His holy Sabbath and commanded them commandments and statutes and a law by Moses his servant.

God gave the people of Israel bread from heaven for their hunger and brought water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and told them to go in to possess the land that He had sworn to give them through Abraham.

“But they and the people of Israel acted presumptuously and stiffened their neck and did not obey your commandments. They refused to obey and were not mindful of the wonders that you performed among them, but they stiffened their neck and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But He are a God ready to forgive, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and did not forsake them. Even when they had made for themselves a golden calf and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ and had committed great blasphemies, He in His great mercies did not forsake them in the wilderness. The pillar of cloud to lead them in the way did not depart from them by day, nor the pillar of fire by night to light for them the way by which they should go. God gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold His manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. Let God has been righteous in all that has come upon the people of Israel, for He have dealt faithfully and them have acted wickedly. And He, the Lord, will be their God, and His servant David shall be prince among them. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. and the government shall be upon his shoulder, whom they have pierced, he allowed for the slaves of sin's transgressions; he was crushed for their iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought all sinner's peace, and with his wounds we are healed. And they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn. and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

The best way is to open it at the beginning of Genesis and start from 1:1. Then it's just as simple as reading the words (you do know how to do that, don't you?) until you need to do something else, at which point you mark the page you're on with a book mark or whatever.

If you do that for a while then you'll end up getting to the end of the whole book.

I'm sure it felt good to write that snark, but that is a surefire for a first-time reader to get completely burnt out without reading a single word of the Gospel. I don't have a fancy reading list or anything, but IMO start with the Gospel and work through the epistles and then tackle the sometimes rather dry OT.
