Anyone here ever been to church? I've always been interested in attending and partaking of the communion but social anxiety prevents me from attending church. I find it preferable and easier to read my KJV .pdf and compare it to the Douay–Rheims .pdf which better fits my inclinations as a Catholic. I feel that I have gained a superior understanding of doctrinal differences from comparing the different translations, though I also feel I'm not getting the complete experience of being a Christian, despite (hopefully without sounding pompous) being more well read than many brothers and sisters of the faith who I am not involved with in any way.

I also listen to Pastor Anderson on youtube even though he is not a Catholic to try and feel the church experience, though still I fear I may be missing out on the 'living parts' of the faith due to my lack of personal involvement in the church. I seek the advice of brothers who have gone through the trials of social anxiety during their involvement in the faith to settle the issue of church involvement for me. Thanks.

3-4 times a week for ~20 years. Drop the pride, son. Go to church. You're missing out.

First, the main priority of every Christian is to imitate Christ, so basing off which church to attend to on a bible translation isn't the way the to go. And since Christ didn't wrote anything personally, the only people we can rely on are His disciples we have learn from them-Now the question is what did the apostle taught? this is where divisions appear. Like on the sacraments, predestination, justification, ecclesiastical authority, and tradition. the view of these from the other side have been a development over (long periods of) time, that means they'ren't apostolic, even if they claim to be.

As for attending church, if you don't want meet anyone just jump in the service 5-10 late and leave at the moment it's done until you have the courage in talk to your siblings in Christ.

I would never join a religion that was "disconnected" from its roots and founders, with no authentic succession of teachers, saints, priests, sacraments, rights, etc.

If it has no authentic initiation then its just the product of man.

Hence only apostolic churches are even an option .

Like if I joined Islam I would seek the most trad schools with clear lines of succession, some sort of sunni Sufi tariqqa. For Buddhism it would be Theravada.

New, heterodox schools are worthless in all religions. The idea that you can subjectively reach the truth with your gut feelings is new age nonsense. The destruction and devaluation of authentic saints/clergy/sages is a sign of modern brain damage.

Yes castes and hierarchy are good. Shitlib religions all center around the individual mentally masturbating over his scriptures. As if every pleb is automatically a saint, buddha or jnani or sage just by birth, and by subscribing to some religious system.

I see, so you want latter-day teachers and saints, ones today, and signs to know them by. You want a growing succession of Apostles to give you effectively new foundations to build on instead of being ok with the current one built on Christ and his Apostles. The irony in this need is that you will only end up following the one who is willing to give you what you want to hear, thus enabling and opening the door to new teachings of the day to continually creep in. Because you're no longer reliant on the foundation. If the perfect man comes with all authority and does and gives everything we need to know and even miraculously preserves all this for every generation, there will be some who aren't satisfied with only that and inevitably someone will pop up to fill that role, and that's how you got Papism. But if you look back to the start, it didn't exist. There was one tradition that was founded on the perfect foundation of the Apostles with Christ as the cornerstone, which didn't need to formulate further doctrines past a certain point, then later another one of commentaries upon commentaries building up the power and fame of prolific men at the unfortunate expense of God's own glorification, and now many schisms from that, claiming succession to various groupings of these men. But since the latter tradition as a whole was more prolific and more politically influential due to abandoning inconvenient principles, they seem to figure the victor writes all the history, except that there's one little problem to this: Scripture still exists, and it can't be eliminated or altered, and is the ultimate refutation to whatever new things they might have come up with between then and now. We all know that, that's why you even get yourself distancing yourself from it.

Going to church is not a social event. It's not about listening to some one talk about something, no matter how smart or correct he may be. It's not about a gathering of like-minded people (even if that's what it is). BUT, going to church is about taking part, participating in a holy mistery, taking part of the most solemn prayer to God and joining in the recreation of His sacrifice, for our salvation and the world. It's about receiving Christ himself in the bread. Even if you are not able to receive the communion, God graces still are poured to those in the congregation.

Please, try to make an effort to go. Sit in the back quietly, no one will even notice you, don't be nervous.

But in all seriousness going to a church service or mass or liturgy shouldn’t be something to dread. Just go and don’t worry if you’re a bit uncomfortable or nervous.

Christianity is something you do, not a armchair YouTube video idealistic right wing ideology.

God is calling you out of that and into the kingdom, you must find a church where you can help them, with chances to volunteer, and also a good pastor to teach you, because you need other people's perspectives to truly understand the word

> I seek the advice of brothers who have gone through the trials of social anxiety during their involvement in the faith to settle the issue of church involvement for me.

Ok, Brother Anon. I went to church last week for the first time in ten years or so. I too have a lot of anxiety about meeting new people. However, it wasn't too bad. Not a lot of people even talked to me. I shook hands with the pastor and spoke with some old lady for a bit. I didn't really weigh heavily on my fears. The church was of such a size that you can feel alone in a crowd.

If you're going to a Catholic church, it should be even easier for you. Have you ever seen a mass? They have a liturgy that they follow. You just follow along with it and maybe talk to someone afterwards about joining the Church. I mean, a lot of fundamentalist Protestant pastors will get up there and say something like, "We're glad to see <random new person> here today! Let's give him a round of applause!" And then everyone is going to come up and shake your hand.

Thanks for the encouragement. I can see the wisdom and ease of going to the back of the Church five to ten minutes after the service starts. I'm not sure how many of you have the same level of social anxiety as me though, it makes me wary of being outside the house and repels me from most public places excluding franchises, unless the franchises are staffed by certain people in which case I still hate to go to them. Most people don't but some people act as if they feel hatred to me as if by instinct.

There's a converted church that is now a night club and eatery some distance from my town and I shall see if I can eat lunch there one day this week to lessen the trepidation I feel when walking to the local church seeing as its the same kind of building.

Thanks, although the church near me is small enough that I would stand out and a lot more people would suddenly know who I was. I'd rather not be known. Small communities can be divided and gossipy and I don't want to take sides in that stuff.
