Why doesn't /christian/ consider Mormons to be Christians? They say they follow Jesus, they say he is the Son of God, and they even say he died for the sins of the world on the cross and then rose 3 days later. So why can't they be Christians? Thoughts?

If you don't believe the Nicene Creed, you're not Christian.

Mormon doctrine is irreconcilable with it. They are not Christian, regardless of what they say they are.

>Don't believe that God created anything merely "organized matter"

>Believe that Godhood can be attained through Mormon practices

>Believe that God was a sinful human who attained his Godhood through adherence to Mormon law

>Believe that falling man and redemption and ressurection is an infinite cycle

>Therefore they believe in infinitely many gods

Even putting aside all the memes, they're still not Christians.

They refer to non-Mormons as "Gentiles", which implies they are the Jews.

Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Rev 3:9

There is one God, Jesus Christ is God. That's the most basic requisite, and Mormons can't follow it. They're pagans, who follow occult rituals and believe in many gods. You can be Christian, or you can be pagan, but you can't be both.

>Why doesn't /christian/ consider Mormons to be Christians?

>So why can't they be Christians? Thoughts?

Because they think they're going to become gods in the afterlife, they follow another book and take Joseph's smith's (a man who re-wrote his version of the bible) own bible jr seriously, when he come from the 1800s and claims to be adding to the ancient bible.

>They say they follow Jesus, they say he is the Son of God, and they even say he died for the sins of the world on the cross and then rose 3 days later.

So do demons.

Jesus also used the word gentiles. I think Mormons probably use it the same way as the Amish, to indicate that they are spiritual Israel.

Mormon Missionaries told me that the Godhead is three beings united by one purpose, that one purpose is God they say. So Mormons do believe in one God of earth. It sounds like the Trinity, just slightly different.

The criterion for being Christian is not self-identification as such.

>Why doesn't Christian consider trans "men" to be men? They say they feel like men, they say they have the brain of a man, and they even sometimes get surgically constructed penises. So why can't they be men?

If they agree to the basics that the Nicene Creed lays down then they are Christians. But they are very easily led astray like Mormons and Jehovas witnesses as they can simply get any meaning out of the Bible with their own personal interpretations.

eacaf1 No.551936

Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses say to understand the bible you need to read it in light of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, respectively.

9ea869 No.551958

Indeed Protestantism is much closer to Jehova's witnesses and Mormonism than to actual Christianity

We all believe that "Apostolic" means of or pertaining to the faith of the Apostles. Obviously the churches that teach that Apostolic succession is part of the Apostolic faith also interpret the word to refer to that. Ecclesiology is clearly one of the main differences between Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Protestant Christians.

However, we are united on the basic definitions of the Creed, such as the Incarnation, the Trinity (with varying views on the procession of the Holy Spirit), the Divine Economy (salvation through Christ alone with varying views on our free will in the matter), etc. We recognize that every Christian worships the One True God, the Holy Trinity, although we disagree about exactly how that worship ought to be done and how communion with God is rightly and fully established.

Mormons are polytheists. On the other hand, Protestant and Orthodox sects are monotheists. Big difference.

cd1fab No.552004

>>551917

'One, Holy, Catholic' can be read as referring to the worldwide, total sum of the faithful across all denominations rather than as a single, immediately visible church. 'Apostolic' can be read as strictly referring to those that witness to the Gospel in the tradition of the 12 (since the word 'Apostle' refers to one that is sent as a messenger of the Gospel). In that specific sense, anyone trying to witness to another person could be seen as a type of 'apostle,' and the entire issue of Holy Tradition could be circumvented.

That would be my guess, at least.

cd1fab No.552008

>>551887

Don't be fooled! This is far from Trinitarian.

This Mormon belief is deconstructing the Trinity. We know that God is One. "I AM," after all, not "WE ARE." Three beings in this case can mean nothing other than 3 'Gods.' God is not a purpose, God is One single Being in 3 persons, each fully God.

It's also worth noting that limiting God to the "god of Earth" as they do defies God's title as the Creator of all things.

No. It is basic mormon doctrine, as stated by JS, that there are infinite gods, that we just happen to worship 3 of those gods. That those gods were once men like us, and that we can become gods through eternal progression, and then populate world with souls created with many celestial wives.

9cdd2a No.552062

I have a feeling that the majority (maybe all?) Mormon converts have this mentality: "I dunno if mormonism is 100% true but it definitely helped me become healthier, my life sucked before, now I feel I have a purpose and the masonic rituals are fun, plus I met my wife there…oh and polygamy is cool ;)"

Are those the result of other different variations of fence sitters spirit children punishment or something?

Imagine in an alternate Universe where Muhammad created Islam but in this Universe he did not deny Christ as God in the flesh and a savior. Would you still consider this Islam Christianity? If not, Then why consider Mormons Christians?
