>" Let me tell you then why the Creator made this world of generation. He was good, and the good can never have any jealousy of anything. And being free from jealousy, he desired that all things should be as like himself as they could be. This is in the truest sense the origin of creation and of the world, as we shall do well in believing on the testimony of wise men: God desired that all things should be good and nothing bad, so far as this was attainable…For this reason, when he was framing the universe, he put intelligence in soul, and soul in body, that he might be the creator of a work which was by nature fairest and best. Wherefore, using the language of probability, we may say that the world became a living creature truly endowed with soul and intelligence by the providence of God. " — Plato

<“The soul in its nature loves God and longs to be at one with Him in the noble love of a daughter for a noble father; but coming to human birth and lured by the courtships of this sphere, she takes up with another love, a mortal, leaves her father and falls.” ― Plotinus

<“This All is universal power, of infinite extent and infinite in potency, a God so great that all his parts are infinite. Name any place, and he is already there.” – Plotinus

How could filthy "pagans" speak such true and sublime words without revelation? [I'm literally shaking here] I heard historians call Plato the "Hellenic Moses" or "Moses who spoke attic Greek"…was he a prophet for the gentiles? If so why didn't he present himself as a prophet, but merely as a philosopher?

Are the Platonists kosher or not??

It's almost like when people dedicate themselves to logic and philosophy they discover God

It's kosher. These guys are probably in heaven as they independantly thought up the Logos and conformed their lives to what they thought was his will.

9a7ae3 No.550115

There's this thing called general revelation. The Law is written on every human heart, you know.

I get how we have an intuitive moral sense, but those quotes are theological/metaphysical.

That passage from Romans is actually applied to baptised gentile Christians. It fulfills Jeremiah 30ish. Had an evening rum so can't quite recall

This. Unbelievers hate God, Christians alone are inclined to do His will.

>"There everything is transparent, nothing dark, nothing resistant; every being is lucid to every other, in breadth and depth; light runs through light. And each of them contains all within itself, and at the same time sees all in every other, so that everywhere there is all, all is all, and each all, and infinite the glory. Each of them is great; the small is great: the sun, there, is all the stars, and every star again is all the stars and sun. While some one manner of being is dominant in each, all are mirrored in every other." "In this Intelligible World, every thing is transparent. No shadow limits vision. All the essences see each other and interpenetrate each other in the most intimate depth of their nature. Light everywhere meets light. Every being contains within itself the entire Intelligible World, and also beholds it entire in every particular being… There abides pure movement; for He who produces movement, not being foreign to it, does not disturb it in its production. Rest is perfect, because it is not mingled with any principle of disturbance. The Beautiful is completely beautiful there, because it does not dwell in that which is not beautiful." "To have seen that vision is reason no longer. It is more than reason, before reason, and after reason, as also is the vision which is seen. And perhaps we should not here speak of sight; for that which is seen if we must needs speak of seer and seen as two and not one is not discerned by the seer, nor perceived by him as a second thing. Therefore this vision is hard to tell of; for how can a man describe as other than himself that which, when he discerned it, seemed not other, but one with himself indeed?" – Plotinus, Enneads

What the heck am I reading? And how do I get there without being possessed by demons?? This is amazing

But that doesn't make any sense

What does that mean

How did they know

Romans 1:18-32 says all men hate God. Unsaved saints hate God, which is only changed once they are saved.

Truth is universal. Just because God maneuvered the Israelites into place to be the people the Messiah would be born into, that doesn't mean he left everyone else completely alone.

Maybe that's why it was necessary for Christ to come to the Judeans first, since they were so wicked, while the gentile philosophers were leading people to the truth and making ready for God.

1 Corinthians 5:1

>It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

Is a better translation of The Word? Is it 道 or 理?

>Maybe that's why it was necessary for Christ to come to the Judeans first, since they were so wicked

I've often thought of this. It makes a lot of sense.

translators usually use 道

Plato is good but I've been reading Athanasius and Justin Martyr are better tbh
