The disciples said to Jesus: "We know that you will depart from us.

Who (then) will rule [lit., ‘be great’] over us?"

Jesus said to them: "No matter where you came from, you should go to

James the Just, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being."

>Gospel

>Of Thomas

There is only four gospels, no less, no more. That's the first thing.

Second is that even though Jerusalem was always special it was never over any church as Holy Councils prooves, starting from Acts 15, to Nicea, to Contantinople etc etc.

Third thing is, my Coptic frien, that your papal seat of Alexandria is of St. Mark, and St. Mark is of Peter, not James. So that alone should make you proclaim this waor as trash.

I am not actually Coptic, just borrowing the symbol for this website.

I've been to a "pan-orthodox" church. There were copts present.

What is the name of your so-called church? Does it have a website?

It had its woes but it was a nice little humble Orthodox Church with a multi-ethnic congregation just doing anything it could to be good Orthodox Christians, to be quite honest.

There was a pretty impressive hardcore monastic conventional Greek Orthodox monastery about 30 miles away.

What does the idea of being 'canonical' do to fulfill Jesus's commandments or further God's will on Earth?

Don't use the Coptic flag as you're not a Copt. To clarify, is the church you're in Orthodox (that is to say, in communion with the Patriarchates)?

It's no problem, we just have sporadic false-flagging issues here. Wearing the flag will often turn into speaking for the denomination so it's a bit of a touchy issue.

do Copts accept that as canon?

I don't know too much about Copts personally, but no, I don't think that Copts accept the Gospel of Thomas as Canon, although they of course famously accept other literature as Canon, most famously the Book of Enoch. If I am not mistaken, it may only be the Ethiopian church which accepts the Book of Enoch as canon….the greater Coptic Church may not accept the Book of Enoch as Canon.

There is of course a very strong scholastic tradition in Egypt going back probably even before the days of Moses if our history books are to be believed. I.E…. the Library of Alexandria.

For instance, the Jewish son of Sira, author of the incredible Book of Sirach from the Septuagint, was a Jewish resident of Egypt. Not sure if the son of Sirach was in Alexandria or Hellenic Egypt, though…

IIRC most of the surviving earliest volumes were from Egypt.

If this had said heaven and earth came into being for Peter the Latins would be all over it and there would be apologetics saying that the Gospel of Thomas didn't teach polytheism
