I know the English verb "to pray" has multiple shades of meaning, which leads to technically contradictory defenses, so that either praying to saints is just like asking a friend and therefore acceptable, or that praying to saints is a false accusation because it's not praying, just asking.
The key here is sending telepathic communications to otherworldly entities to ask for some favor in their power, which is qualitatively different from asking a fellow human through normal human communications, whether in person or through an imageboard. That praying to saints is a thing at all is a symptom of the sort of theology where God is influenced by opportunistic tricks rather than judging each prayer impartially and where the best path to success is knowing which mystic names to invoke in a given situation.
