Asking someone to pray for is not the same as praying to someone. Catholic tradition doesn't make someone "pray to" Mary, rather ask Mary to "pray for".

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

You are attributing malice and ungodliness where there is none based on your own interpretations. The early christians believed that saints could intercede for them as they too are part of the mystical body of Christ. To believe that saints are not with God or ceases to pray for us just because they are not on earth anymore does not make much sense.
