Follow me on my SPIRITUAL JOURNEY.

Praying to Mary so she can ask The Son something is normal, yea? For she is his mother.

So I was thinking, if Mary DID ask something form Jesus, he would be very persuaded to do so, because she is his mother.

Then I realized. Isn't this a bit opportunistic?

Like, anyone?

Praying to Christ so we can reconcile with the Father is pretty opportunistic ain’t it?

d125c1 No.541045

The problem is that Mary is as much united with her Son so that any kind of opportunism through her is impossible.

"Do whatever He tells you" is her motto after all.

The difference is that Jesus Christ is part of the Trinity and is GOD, and has all the benefits of being one.

Mary is spotless but does not know everything like he does.

>Isn't this a bit opportunistic?

That could be said of any prayer/request to God. You do so out of selfish motives of gaining something. But that's a mistake to feel guilty about that, as God like any good Father wants to spoil us with good graces if we strive to perfect ourselves.

Stopped there, the Catholic in this pic is clearly heretical.

Yes. This is related to the medieval Catholic folk view of Jesus as wrathful and Mary as the gentle one willing to hear ordinary people's requests.

>>541048

If you aren't praying to Mary, how do you think you're communicating your prayer request to her then so that she knows what to pray? When you wrap a prayer in a prayer, that doesn't make the outer prayer not a prayer.

So, are the people in >>353817 praying to 8chan? Asking someone to pray for you is NOT a prayer TO that someone.

I keep hearing this nonsense. Who came up with this?

Pray just means asking. Not anything else.

7ee4d3 No.541330

Don't ignore compassion. If you get Jesus's character wrong, your entire theology is in danger.

>>541283

I know the English verb "to pray" has multiple shades of meaning, which leads to technically contradictory defenses, so that either praying to saints is just like asking a friend and therefore acceptable, or that praying to saints is a false accusation because it's not praying, just asking.

The key here is sending telepathic communications to otherworldly entities to ask for some favor in their power, which is qualitatively different from asking a fellow human through normal human communications, whether in person or through an imageboard. That praying to saints is a thing at all is a symptom of the sort of theology where God is influenced by opportunistic tricks rather than judging each prayer impartially and where the best path to success is knowing which mystic names to invoke in a given situation.

d8d498 No.541387

>>541330

"to pray" is not the same as "pray to".

Asking someone to pray for is not the same as praying to someone. Catholic tradition doesn't make someone "pray to" Mary, rather ask Mary to "pray for".

69939b No.541395

Do you still pray to God, or do you just ask Mary to pray for you?

If you count Marian prayer as one of your daily prayers to god, its definitely idolatry.

James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

You are attributing malice and ungodliness where there is none based on your own interpretations. The early christians believed that saints could intercede for them as they too are part of the mystical body of Christ. To believe that saints are not with God or ceases to pray for us just because they are not on earth anymore does not make much sense.

>How do I into reading comprehension?

He never claimed that. The question was "Why is it okay to depict the Holy Spirit?" and the answer the Catholic gives is because the Holy Spirit was represented in the Gospels, physically, as a dove.

Regardless, the part that is relevant to this thread is the last part.
