Why don't all atheists just commit suicide? No offense to them, but the world is a sickening and disgusting place to live in, there's no end goal for people like them. Is it the Holy Spirit in every human soul at work, even in those who don't believe in him? Or are they just (no offense bro) retarded?

Because this life is all they have? If it wasn't a mortal sin, we should be the ones commiting suicide

Because they believe in God, but they hate him

Modern day "atheism" is really an antitheism of people with daddy issues.

31635b No.539809

Ex-atheist here.

Atheism does not necessarily lead to nihilism, you know. There may be no higher purpose or meaning in life, but the purposes you give yourself are very real. Making others happy, enjoying yourself, leaving a legacy behind, all that.

And from a Christian perspective: everything was created by the Father, through the Son, in the Holy Spirit; and indeed, the Logos exists in and through all of us who have the power of reason, and the Holy Spirit fills up all things, and all implicitly know that all creation will return to God the Father. The law of God is written in the heart of every individual, but the devil makes man deaf, blind, and paralyzed.

when I went through my fedora phase I always figured the time period before and after death were complete nonexistence where you can't even think or feel or do anything. so it would be preferable to experience life in any form, even pain, because it is so limited compared to infinity.

>Why don't all atheists just commit suicide?

BECAUSE THEN /christian/'s pph WOULD DROP BY HALF OR MORE

78f8c5 No.539839

Why do you assume suicide is not only the rational response to the word, but a rational response that human beings desire to act upon? People commit suicide but usually not solely because of abstract assessments of the world’s worth - people commit suicide when the suffering they are personally experiencing is too much to bare. There are many ways people try to avoid the suffering that is an inevitable, inescapable part of life, and religion is one of them (not a bad thing), so it makes sense that you would consider it a bulwark against suicide. Would you just kill yourself OP if you lost faith? Or do you view people without faith as worthless and think, or wish, that they would kill themselves? The meaninglessness of the world is so disagreeable to the human spirit that it can’t really digest the idea. It flees from it at every turn.

I’m not trying to moralise. But I find it odd you lack insight on this. Are you a cradle catholic or convert

366954 No.539913

>>539839

I've been catholic since I was a baby, that's why I don't understand atheists. If I didn't have faith, I'd have killed myself since a long time ago. Everything I do, everything I have to do, everything I desire to do, just feels like bullshit to me. But at least I have an undeniable raison d etre.

And yeah, now I notice that there is this denial of death thing going on in humans. People want to create art for a reason, for example. But still, if I didn't believe in God, it would be easy for me to overcome this denial.

The Holy Spirit only resides in those are born again - in true Christians. These people are jut cowards who refuse to take their worldview to its logical conclusion.

While the idea of attending to the planks in each of our eyes isn't wrong, thank you for giving us our daily misuse of Matthew 7.

58b67a No.539970

>>539968

What is the proper use of Matthew 7?

d48f8c No.539978

>>539970

Continuing with the next verse:

>For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

In other words, we should see that the same standard of judgement we apply to another equally applies to us – we should hold ourselves to it, aware that God is holding us to the standard of his perfection, and not pass judgement on others.

Nevertheless:

>Those who are sinning rebuke in the presence of all, that the rest also may fear. (1 Timothy 5:20)

>Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. (Luke 17:3)

We are called to rebuke sin because we are called to love our enemies. Rebuking the sinful for sinful actions is righteous, and we are bound to do it by love for the sinner as fellow children of God. A rebuke is not passing judgement on someone, but a call to repentance.

d7f451 No.540231

Atheists generally define the good things as being pleasures you experience (see >>539809), death according to such thinking is the end of your ability to experience pleasure. This is why many atheists frown on the death penalty but not abortion.

5948f0 No.540244

>>540231

>Atheists generally define the good things as being pleasures you experience

Most Christians even define good things as pleasures you experience. If you ask people "what sorts of things are good in life" they'll often describe things that directly give them pleasure such as a good smoke or a fast car. Or they'll describe things like family or skills they've learned. Seeing anti pleasure Christians in the modern day is very rare and you tend to only see it in extreme circumstances like with the Amish.

>death according to such thinking is the end of your ability to experience pleasure

Generally speaking almost everyone has a biological fear of death. It's why you have a sudden jolt of fear if you see someone pull a gun on you. This isn't exclusive to atheists either almost everyone fears death in some regard (even if it's as simple as just not wanting it to happen right now because you have a family). It's why most people who try to commit suicide chicken out at the last minute.

>This is why many atheists frown on the death penalty but not abortion.

I think this more so has to do with liberalism and perceptions on capital punishment. The death penalty for instance is frowned upon in predominantly religious countries as well. Even some Muslim majority countries don't have the death penalty. Like Turkey is 9% non-muslim and it hasn't executed a prisoner since 1984. It tends to only be in America that people still debate the death penalty.

The main reason why people are pro choice has almost everything to do with liberalism and feminism.
