>By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done

it doesn't say like for the other days: "And there was evening, and there was morning"

do we have to assume that we are living in the 7th day?

this would disprove young earth creationist since a single "day" would be at least many thousands years long

video: very related

>how does someone as dumb as yourself

Now aren't you like our Father in Heaven, eh?

Cute theory. I thought up of something similar back when I was a kid. If you accept the rest of the bible, then that idea is possible.

Something similar, in the sense of 'god isn't actively doing stuff in this world at the moment', you've got postmillenniunmism (Satan is currently trapped 'in the pit' told in revelation 20, and Jesus will come back and start doing things again after the thousand years are finished), and preterism (all the prophecies in the bible are finished, and Satan is trapped in the 'lake of fire and sulphur' forever). Both of these involve no Satan that is actively doing stuff on earth at the moment, and often not a Father that is doing stuff either, because He does not need to.

I mentioned this idea in a thread once and people here lost their damn minds. There was much crying and gnashing of teeth. That was just a casual mention in an otherwise normal thread.

Now you've made a whole thread on the concept and, well, first reply …

That must have been at least a year ago. It was, right?

Whoops, I meant that it is not possible.

It all boils down to the concept of time. Baptists tend to believe that what we humans perceive as a "day" is exactly the same as what God perceives as a "day". There is no room in the Baptist conversation for vernacular or for the idea that the Bible might contain concepts, rather than direct meaning.

>>538813

I don't remember when it was. It was a thread discussing time. A "God day" vs a "human day" in Creation, that the universe could very well be billions of years old. I brought to it the idea that we are in God's 7th day right now and, well, the result was 90% of the first reply in this thread - mostly with Baptist flags.

Oh.

Apologies to me for OP, can we make this the general "unorthodox beliefs" thread? I have a bunch laying around with me but I don't want to derail the thread.

Okay, here it goes.

Do you think that the angels that are still in heaven(ie:Faithful to god) hate us, humans? I mean, just because they didn't defect to Satan and went to hell, doesn't mean they can't have some very open doubts towards us.

2b743b No.538830

>>538819

well, if God even appointed some guardian angels to look after us, it means they like us :)

f35b08 No.538834

>>538819

Not him, but anyways, heres my answer

This, I think would be mainly for those who got their impression on Angels from… supernatural or similar series (where basically everyone is human)

First of all, we must be clear on the fact, that immaterial differs from material vastly, and what we do is to basically explain or express immaterial by our creative ways, but we must not be confused to think that it is the infallible or such. Same thing goes to Angels. For example Dionysus the Areopagite (works of which are prime sources for Christian Angelology) warns us about the similar precedents and tells us that we shouldnt imagine that Angels are creatures with literal fluffy wings, with head of oxes or…wheels, and also tells us that then we should also imagine that heaven is filled with mooing of the cattle and so on. The same goes to feelings.

But to go back to the thread, no, Angels wont have similar feelings, because of several reasons. For one, they were created as and are obedient servants of the Lord, and since God loves us, than they too, or else, it would be a rebellion against Him, for we are made in His own image and likeness, and despite what Calvinists and Reformed in general would say, we retain this (though its damaged by our degeneracy). Second of all, they shouldnt have any reason for this, because we do not oppose their existence, nor are affairs of this material world theirs, but it was given to Men to rule. So why should they hold grudge against us, if we do not oppose their existence. Now someone may bring up "we shall judge Angels" verse from Paul, that means that we will rule over them, but we must consider, that this is about after the Final Judgment, and concerning Saints, who will be co-heirs with Christ, when we will be transformed and be as perfect, as our Father in Heaven is perfect. So even then we won threat their existence. Of course, I repeat, this is not about our current, fallen state, in which even Animals would be (and quite are) miserable in our rule, not talking about the Angels. And finally, Angels knew, according to church traditions, about plan of God, to create Mankind and that Man would be appointed over His creation as Masters, and some even attest fall of Angels to this. So if they remained with God, they shall be with Him always.

But Prime thing is the first thesis: If Angel disobeys, he is no longer an Angel. Therefore, no, if Angel is an Angel, he is with Lord our Heavenly Father, who loves us.

This is, of course talking in our material terms. Some of which I may have formulated in wrong ways. If I made a mistake, feel free to correct.

Okay, I can trust your explanation and you. Its pretty concise.

But to explain my belief…

>Second of all, they shouldnt have any reason for this, because we do not oppose their existence, nor are affairs of this material world theirs, but it was given to Men to rule. So why should they hold grudge against us, if we do not oppose their existence.

Yeah but angels sometimes come down to Earth. In fact, it happened a lot in the Bible.

I know it was just a history but in Lot's history, he entertains a angel and the angel guides him out of Sodom. Surprise, surprise, his house is surrounded by human reprobates that demand they be able to meet the "beautiful man form earlier". At that point I considered this really happening and that both humans and angels would be disgusted. Things went on for a while.

The seventh day ended with the work of Christ… We are in the eight and final day. Which is why we worship on Sunday, the day after the Sabbath.

2b743b No.538849

>>538848

so how long the seventh day lasted more or less?

f35b08 No.538850

>>538845

>Yeah but angels sometimes come down to Earth. In fact, it happened a lot in the Bible.

This doesn't change my point. Material world is not their affairs and when they come to us, they come to execute God's will and to give us God's word. They are servants of the Lord.

As for the disgust part, the fact that sin is disgusting, doesnt mean, that sinner should be hated. Also note the fact that Angels are in service of the Lord "maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.".

Depends on whether you are a Young Earth Creationist or not. The Byzantines believed that, based off the Septuagint's numbering, the world was created 5509 years before the Incarnation, so, since the eight day, the "new creation", began when the work of the Lord was finished and He opened Paradise again for us when He died, then 5542 years would have been the duration of the seventh day.

But that is frankly unimportant. What matters is that we have entered the eight day, the eternal day of communion with the Lord.

From Orthodox Wiki:

>The Sabbath day is the seventh day, it is the day of rest in this world, the final day of the week. The next day, Sunday, is symbolic of the first day of creation, but also the last day of the Kingdom of God, the eighth day. The first day is also the eighth day, the day beyond the confines of this world, the day which stands for the life of the world to come, the day of the eternal rest of the Kingdom of God.

>The number eight has symbolical significance in both Jewish and Christian spiritual tradition in that it signifies more than completion and fullness. Eight signifies the Kingdom of God and the life of the world to come, seven being the number of earthly time.

>For Orthodox Christians, Sunday is the day of Christ's resurrection from the dead, the day of God's judgment and victory predicted by the prophets. Sunday inaugurates the presence and the power of the "kingdom to come", already within the life of this present world. It is a weekly celebration of Pascha.

And a homily on that subject: https://theorthodoxlife.wordpress.com/2017/05/17/the-eighth-day/
