Now I know SOMEONE will "thread not /christian/" but, come on, if holding a mirror to this fallen world's shithole's place's face isn't /christian/'s job, then I cannot imagine who else's it is.
So, I've only just caught-up with the hand-wringing and breast-beating sackcloth-n-ashes festival going on in the media about Hollywood's abetting yet another sexual predator – and when exactly is the Coreys' rapist(s) getting his/theirs? – when it occurred to me that,

I will point out that the immediate response to my "why" question in the first one is likely to be "but Hef' didn't rape", which is very true, but also entirely not my point.
My point is that he publicly promoted celebrating lust, made a paradise of (his own) sexual liberation, bedded as many arguably beautiful young women for no reason other than he wanted to celebrate this kind of activity as normal and worthy of celebration. And wanted the world to follow his lead. What about these rapists is not just an extension of that line of thinking? "I, too, have power (and quaaludes). I should get me also some o' dat." They just tried their own version of celebration but the world is all like, "but that's not what we meant". But … really? Isn't it?
Hefner used his power to bed young women, the power to make them into stars, to give them a wealthy lifestyle, to have them meet powerful men, maybe marry them. He was a glorified pimp, in some respects, who slept with the merchandise. How are any of these other men different, other than they were somehow LESS successful with the bedding and so turned to violence to get what they wanted?
I can put the basic idea in meme, but I guess I am finding it hard to put that in words. I am concerned that it will be taken the wrong way, that … I dunno, the world is better at manipulating ideas than poor ole me. Was kinda hoping I could crowdsource fixing that. Not for my own benefit, mind. I encourage betterifying what I've tried to do – steal away.
But, look, if they're shit, say so. I'd rather not add to the steaming pile.
