Quickly passing a paper/wood flame near one's skin hardly proves anything, you can do this yourself to the same effect

It's interesting since it appears from nothing, if real it creates an interesting question.

Is there something that God is attempting to address much like in supposed Eucharist miracles? It's rather odd that it'd be a yearly occurance just because…

This cant apply cause miracles have been happening in the apostolic churches since, well, apostolic times.

Uhm, well, that's not really anything special.

I know this might sound autistic, but have any of you never did this as a child with a normal candle? You just have to be fast enough to pass through the flame before your hand actually starts to catch fire. It smells horrible if you manage to burn any of your arm hairs tho.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Fire#Criticism

>In 2005, in a live demonstration on Greek television,[20] Michael Kalopoulos, author and historian of religion, dipped three candles in white phosphorus. The candles spontaneously ignited after approximately 20 minutes due to the self-ignition properties of white phosphorus when in contact with air. According to Kalopoulos' website:

>If phosphorus is dissolved in an appropriate organic solvent, self-ignition is delayed until the solvent has almost completely evaporated. Repeated experiments showed that the ignition can be delayed for half an hour or more, depending on the density of the solution and the solvent employed.

>Kalopoulos also points out that chemical reactions of this nature were well known in ancient times, quoting Strabo, who states: "In Babylon there are two kinds of naphtha springs, a white and a black. The white naphtha is the one that ignites with fire." (Strabon Geographica 16.1.15.1-24) He further states that phosphorus was used by Chaldean magicians in the early fifth century BC, and by the ancient Greeks, in a way similar to its supposed use today by the Eastern Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem.[21]

>Russian skeptic Igor Dobrokhotov[22] has analysed the evidence for an alleged miracle at length on his website, including the ancient sources[23] and contemporary photos and videos.[24] He has also reproduced fire-bathing and has uncovered contradictions in the story of the "column split by lightning."

>>536409

Well it is based off this website. Dig back to some of the threads by Catholics on Eucharistic Miracles and see what the Orthodox think. The same critics of EM make these types of threads about some fire in Jerusalem. Cathodox should stop attacking each other so much. I'm very happy to hear of this miracle in Jerusalem, though.

One of the earlier Eucharistic Miracles that we know of happened in the 8th century where the Eucharist actually became human flesh, which is rare. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_of_Lanciano

>>536419

>that we know of

Special pleading

>happened in the 8th century

No, that is the traditional claim, which is what your link even says. It is clearly misdated. It is most likely from the 11th century or the early 12th century. The reason it took so long for such "miracles" to happen is that transubstantiation wasn't dominant (or even common, really) until the high middle ages. In the 8th century the Augustinian view of the Eucharist was still quite dominant

What's more interesting is how the candles lit themselves on fire.

742f10 No.536452

>>536417

Muslims, who deny the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ, tried to put obstacles in the way of the miracle. Well known Muslim historian Al Biruni wrote: "… a (note: Muslim) governor brought a copper wire instead of a wick (note: for the self lighting oil lamps), in order that it wouldn't ignite and the whole thing would fail to occur. But as the fire descended, the copper burned."

>Orthodox mock us for Eucharistic miracles

We don't mock you, for them.

We just consider your "folk cult" about them weird, and react very differently when it happens to us.

For us, means a lot of people are denying the Real Presence, and we need to call the bishop, since it's a bad sign.

Sorry Orthobro but last time I checked,

Luke 4:12: Jesus answered, "It is said: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

God doesn't throw a miracle at you every time you deny him.

In your "Eucharistic miracles" what are the accidents?

>>536409

I make fun of their inability to deal with basics problems, such as that their strongest argument against cannibalism is that the accidents remain bread and wine, but in these cases what are they accidents and are those who receive these miracles under the priests orders committing cannibalism?

You have a valid defense against cannibalism, but then you throw in these "miracles" without explaining them in the terms used to defend yourself against accusations of cannibalism. Virtue signaling wont help, you need an actual defense
