Any Catholics here learning Latin?

a7d961 No.533701

I'd be interested in doing so. I just don't know where or how to go about it. Too bad duolingo doesn't have Latin.

In the past few days I learned how to recite the Signum Crucis and Ave Maria. My goal atm is to know the entire rosary by heart in Latin. Latin really is a beautiful language.

79ad45 No.533796

Friendly reminder that simply reciting prayers in Latin isn't nearly as rewarding as praying with a full understanding of the language.

That genuinely irritates me.

>"We have Klingon and High Valyrian, but not useful languages like Latin!"

Also, their usages for the icons irritate me as well. Like Spanish. How do I know I'm learning true Spanish and not peasant Spanish, because the flag is Spain's but the icon is Mesoamerican. Why not the Alhambra? I couldn't recognize other icons like for Polish or Turkish (I'd be PISSED if they used the Hagia Sophia; good thing they didn't).

Latin is a legal language, not a theological language, hence why papists have turned into crypto Jews with their legalist views and obsession for defining everything (see the catechism) (also implying that man can understand the Eucharist, etc)

Are you me? That's exactly what I was thinking searching duolingo for it.

If you understand them in English, and if you memorised them in Latin you would understand those prayers. Many words carry over from Latin to English.

Trying. Got mango language app through my local library and seems to be a decent start.

Interesting article I just came across.

Latin Mass, Latin Exorcism, Latin Sacraments Crush The Devil

http://www.traditionalcatholicpriest.com/2014/11/16/latin-mass-latin-exorcism-latin-sacraments-crush-the-devil/

>Remember that the devil hates Latin and the sacred ancient Latin Sacraments, Rites and prayers of the Catholic Church. So you can see that it was precisely when Latin was being removed, (1965-69), that all hell broke loose. Many ask why the devil hates Latin and why it is used in Exorcisms and has power over the devil. The answer is that ecclesiastical Latin is a sacred language that was reserved only for the divine service of the Church of God, in prayer and in the Sacraments. (There is classic Roman Latin of Cicero that is also studied today. But it is significantly different for the sacred ecclesiastical Latin.)

>Our profane language is English. It is used to cuss with, to curse with, gossip with, to lie with, to deceive with, to corrupt souls with, along with all the other common ways it is used to communicate with. On the other hand, ecclesiastical Latin is only used for holy things, and is a dead language that does not change and has been reserved for centuries just for prayer, (especially the Latin Mass). For this reason, the devil hates it.

It pleases the Lord, and triggers the devil. I need to learn more Latin tbh.

ded2aa No.534552

>>534537

Latin pleases the Lord? I thought the whole tower of Babel thing was to stop us from the [insert universal language here] thing. Why can't Mass be in any language we want it to be?

Or are you just LARPing?

looks like you forgot a few:

Koine Greek, Church Slavonic, Old Georgian, Classical Armenian, Ge'ez, Coptic, and Syriac as well. so don't get all high and mighty

243471 No.534565

It didn't say it was the only one used that way, just that Latin is only used for holy things.

Is this an ameircan-only board?

In germany everyone learns latin who attends the highest school.

Had it for six years and I'm still able to understand a lot but I can't translate without looking up a lot of words.
