It has demons/occult things in it and it's very violent. Is exposing yourself to or participating in such things approving of or glorifying them?

I don't even like horror games or anything that uses morbidity as entertainment. Having said that I do like watching DSP screw up so earlier this year I watched his playthrough of Resident Evil 7 and halfway through that I began to feel like I was sick and grieved.

This is the question I wanted to ask. I wanted to play it since the first two Dooms are the only single player shooters I have ever enjoyed, and I heard a lot of praise for it, but I dislike the occult themes in the game.

Anyways, after playing it, I don't really like it that much. It's excellent on a technical level, and on a mechanic level it's better than most shooters in the last few years, but there's too much bloat and the gunplay doesn't feel that satisfying.

Game doesn't make me feel good playing it, and it's not really all that mind-blowing in gameplay, so I suppose the answer is no.

The Inferno doesn't glorify violence at all, though, nor do the protagonists to anything objetionable or occult. On top of that, Inferno was written for building-up, with an explicit Christian message. None of these can be said about Doom.

No. I am more worried about its literal approach to spiritual warfare. You can't literally kill a legion of demons with a pump gun.

if you're talking about OG Doom, then there is nothing particularly objectionable on most grounds. I also don't find anything particular occult about OG Doom aside from decorational textures.

In Doom you're killing demons, so that's a good thing, but if you take that action and turn it into glorifying violence in general then it can have an adverse affect on you morally. I haven't played Doom since in the videos I saw it didn't seem too good, but when I was playing the beginning of "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" when Woods is shown all beat up and lame then when a Black guy got burned alive I felt like I was doing damage to my internal moral compass. Like, if it's okay to do fucked up shit to these people then maybe that shit happening in real life isn't so bad and doesn't warrant objection.

However playing Doom can have a positive effect on you as well. You're taking an active role and standing up against evil. With endless Anime posters on chan sites playing video games can be a way for you to become more masculine and dominant.

This poster actually made a good point in that with the idea that anything that pushes you away from God is a sin, endlessly browsing threads can push you away from God in that you become dumber and less averse to a low quality life. God wants us all to be happy and successful, so wasting your youth away without producing anything intelligent or creative contradicts that will.

It may or may not be a sin depending on whether or not it causes scandal or tempts you to sin - and the verdict on this is different for each person. It doesn't matter whether the game itself glorifies evil, what really matters is whether this makes you or someone else glorify evil.

What exactly are your concerns?

Personally, I'd say being so obsessed with Super Mario Bros so much that you train to get the world record speed run time is more likely to be a sin than playing Doom casually.

If you have doubts though, it's better to outright avoid it.
