EMPIRES OF EUROPA: WAR OF THE GODS
One thousand years ago, the gods of Order and Chaos declared war upon each other, using Earth as their battleground. Whole continents were devastated by the onslaught, as battle after battle turned the land into what would come to be known as the Void Wastes, completely inhospitable lands where death energy sucks the very life out of all who dare to tread upon it. One area of land that escaped complete destruction was the continent of Europa along with the northern tip of the desert continent of Africa and the frozen island of Grønland across the seas, along with various other islands such as Britannia and others. The lands that were spared gave life to many different civilizations, which slowly developed into proper nations, each with the knowledge of smithing bronze and having other related technologies. However, the gods have decided to make their return, and, seeing the industrious humans, have decided to use them as proxies in their wars to avoid more catastrophes taking place on Earth. Who will prevail and rule over Europe? Will your civilization find fortune and power and rise to greatness or fail and crumble? Only time will tell.
To get started with the game, please fill out the following character sheet.
>Nation name:
(Self-explanatory, please pick something smart)
>Color:
(Your color on the map, no black please. Also see the terrain tab)
>Fluff:
(The characteristics and features that define your nation and make it special. Will be used to assign starting techs)
—
Do not fill out:
>Population:
10,000
(If this hits zero, you die. Affects various things, such as your ability to passively defend your territory, the maximum size of your armies, and more)
>Food production:
11,000
(Number represents how many people are being fed with your current production levels, you can go above this but it will lead to hunger levels rising. Food production can be increased by building relevant buildings and researching food tech. Note that standing armies will consume twice the amount of food as normal)
>Population growth:
1%
(Add this percentage to your population every turn. Can be increased by researching relevant techs, such as medicine and so on. Having your hunger level at SURPLUS will double population growth)
>Hunger:
None (Affected by food production, can also be lowered as a result of bad rolls/critfails. Having your hunger level dip too low will cause people to start dying.)
>Territory:
1 (The amount of land you control)
>Outposts/towns/cities:
1 Capitol City (you can only build outposts from scratch, they can be upgraded to towns and cities later. Affects population growth, also the more developed the city the stronger the passive defense will be. Also you can build one of any given building in a city, having more cities will allow you to build more of the same building. Outposts/towns/cities cannot be within two tiles of another city.)
>Happiness:
0 (Ranges from -10 to +10. A happiness of 8 or above will grant a slight boost to productivity, whereas a happiness of -5 or lower will lead to reduced productivity. A happiness of -8 or below will lead to revolts, and a happiness of -10 will lead to a coup and loss of control over your civilization, effectively meaning game over for you.)
>Technologies:
Bronzeworking, Basic Animal Husbandry, Basic Farming + two other techs determined by fluff
>Buildings:
Player-named capitol building
>Standing Army:
None
>Resources:
(Determined by fluff, there are three types – food resourc)
>Magic:
(Given by the gods, typically gods will approach you once you meet certain thresholds and once you start worshipping one you can begin researching relevant magics using divine favor, you can only have one god at a time)
>Divine Favor:
N/A (haven’t discovered any gods yet)

>Divine Favor:
1. The God Below had not yet made his desires known, thus life would continue as it had before for now. Samson would see to it that more men would have to join the army in order to protect the Free City from Threats both Foreign and Domestic. Still he could not wait to face the God Below, as one of the City's Patriarchs he had been informed of the situation. He had braved the mines many of times, and though his faith in the God Below had been unwavering, never had he imagined to lay eyes upon him in his lifetime. However even the appearance of a dream made real was no reason to be slacking off and Samson would be sure to let the new recruits know.
2. Their minds were eager, but their weapons crude. The Free City's Swordsmen would require better weapons and armor forged from the City's own metals. Though Metalworking had not exactly been Julius' field of experise the Patriarch did fancy himself an intellectual and would be if Samson that Brute managed to make technological discoveries before he did.
3. With the surrounding landscapes proving dangerous to whomever ventured out in order to provide food more creative solutions would be required. Seeing as the Free City mostly required the Mountains for what rested within them they could find some way to construct farms on the outside. Friedrich would talk to both farmers and miners to find creative solutions, his mind however still wandered down into the Depths were he first met the God Below.
Free:
The Patriarchs exchanged glances. Certainly Friedrich's story was adventerous to say the least, but then again, had he not returned with wealth never seen before? Had he not returned with a skull warped and disconnected from this world beyond reason? These men had spent their childhoods in the mines, clinging onto life day after day. None of them were cowards. Who were they to refuse the call from the God Below? They would venture down into the mines into the Depths, realms unclaimed by man.

Name: Roma (Formerly Villanovans)
Color: Purple
>Fluff: Dwelling in what will eventually become central and Southern Italy, the Villanovan people are not of the land they currently dwell in, they have come south, from the mighty Danube in Greater Germanium, moving south until stopped at the mighty Tiber river, wherein a site most defensible and arable land had been found. From a small gathering of tents grew into a small city on the seven hills, and out from it came a people hungry for more, like wolves in their hunger. They used bronze tools, like most of the people of the era, but unlike the others around them they burn their dead, keeping them in sacred urns. Their government is the true strength of their people, a federated system were a senate made of the most wealthy and individual man from the head of each tribe meet to decide the course of the people and the current leader, or "Consul" for the period. In times of extreme need all power is handed over to a Dictator, who rules absolutely, and once said time having passed returns his laurel and becomes just another man. Their man source of income and industry are chiefly Agro-Pastoral, with some Metallurgy and limited trade with the people of the Mediterranean.

>Fluff Hero: Decimus the Armorsmith, Sisenna the Sailor, Domitius the Siege Engineer
1. With the new standardized measurements, Decimus's forge should be able to be rebuilt with relative ease as he will have bricks of similar size and mortar of fine quality with reach to build it. AS such the resources of the state are at his disposal
2. With the Tiber Raging and the lose of life this is a time of mourning, but also that of opportunity. Perhaps there is a way to ensure that the flood waters could be diverted from their destructive path and be used instead to water the fields, maybe we can use stone to divert the river's floodplain into our fields, thus avoiding flooding the city while at the same time providing water closer to the fields. Extra water can also be diverted into tanks for private use as well, but we will need a system of enclosed tubes to transport it first. A thought for another day perhaps.
3. Much of the lands to the south lay barren and empty, and Roma has plenty of people who would be willing to settle them, to have their own land with which to live and prosper. Settlers are sent out to settle these southern lands, and some military men as well, incase of any robbers or savages. One cannot control a land until their marshal men march upon.
4. These people who stall the progression of the horses simply do not understand why a device used to keep a person's weight off a horses spine is necessary, but our brightest minds will explain to them using the simply analogy of a a quarrymen and his frame. What we are trying to do is disperse the load across the animals spine, the same as the miner's frame, to spare them the full brunt of the load. Work continues on them either way.

It was done, boats, no, ships! Ships that could travel beyond the Nile could now be made. And with them the people of the Nile could finally expand beyond the confines of the Nile itself. And expand they would, but not by settling lands, but by trading. There are other kingdoms beyond the Nile, word says one lies not far to the east, and without a doubt some lay on the other side of the sea, or further along the western coast. They will be found, they will be told about the glory of the Nile, and of our willingness to trade with them.
1) With these new ships we can travel the coasts and the sea, go out and map the nearby coasts of the two seas! (Very Basic Nile Cartography)
2) What else can these woven reeds be used for? (Invent Papyrus Paper)
3) Continue work on the Great Pyramid, it needs to be ready before the Pharaoh dies

The survivors of Helmheim suffered greatly. Storms, cold, raiders and sickness. More and more they suffered and to avoid this suffering they dug down. Into the mountians, under the thills. Making tunneled homes under the fields they plow. There they found riches of metal and of knowledge past. Old graves of their ancestors. Shaped by the inscriptions and weaponry they found there they have been molded. Now they wage war upon those that wronged them and when none of those remain upon those that are weak. They smith their weapons to claim what is theirs. Serfs and sacrifices of blood they bleed out underground to let the blood seep down to their dread mistress Hel.
1) It's time to strike the weaker settlement. In the night surround the settlement with the hammerers and then light it on fire with fire arrows. Catch all the people trying to escape through our blocked off paths and kill all the confused defenders that don't surrender.
2) Our smiths start crafting armor for our warriors. Cuirasses, helmets and chainmail to protect them.
3) We also set up schools of nursery. Where atleast one woman from each village has to go and learn how to properly care for pregnant women and how to help them give birth in the best way. They also learn some other good things to know about how to treat normal ails of the children.

Natives to the central region of the Iberian peninsula they have lived and grown away from most of the strife and conflict caused by the gods and their proxies. Predominantly a herder people, having more cattle herders than farmers. They are known to the neighboring tribes for their black pottery, strange animal statues watching over their cattle fields, and necropolis. Since no god has approached them yet they believe in spirits of nature, animals, and people and seek to deal with or control them into doing what they desire. 1. The messiah gives a speech in attempt to get the rest of them to surrender peacefully rather than be forced to kill for salacia is a merciful and loving goddess. “You are huddled in this fort barely have any more soldiers, your deaths are only a matter of time if you continue to fight. Your crimes against salacia and her believers have rightfully been punished to this extent but Salacia is not an overly vengeful goddess she is a goddess of love and mercy only if you cross her directly will there be no retreat. As the goddess’ representative it is my duty to offer you a chance to surrender. You the king will submit to the sea and be given to her hallowed halls. And in return your soldiers and people will be given clemency for their crimes and forgiven for their folly welcomed into the cooling embrace of salacia’s faith. It is your choice as king of your people will you see those who followed in your folly die to the man or will you submit to justice and allow your people the chance to move on as any good king would?”
1 Messiah (Scipio di Salacia)
2. Dunno if I can do this but it’s a variant roll depending on whether the encourage surrender roll succeeds or not.
A. The enemy surrenders. This roll is to sacrifice the king to salacia in good faith as attonement for the crimes of those who followed him. And begin induction of his old followers into the worship of salacia.
1 Messiah (Scipio di Salacia)
or
B. The enemy fails to surrender. This is the combat roll to finish them off.
213 regulars +11, 744 elites+14
3. The barracks is abandoned once again and instead the researchers of the king are ordered to begin coming up with a writing system that can efficiently pass orders and record the glories of our kingdom and of salacia. After all the fifth time is the charm.

The northerens are hardy, tall and strong people owing the harsh and cold lands of Scandinavia. While a strong hunting and bowmanship tradition existed the northern culture was relatively peaceful most people being simple farmers and fishers. This slowly changed with the rise of Einarr Ylfing and the influx of sophisticated bronzeweapons through trade and craftsmanship. Einarr rose up as the chief of the Ylfing tribe through violence, strength and a unique charisma. Soon he began exploiting old family blood feuds to legitimize raids against other tribes. Situations quickly escalated with Einarr proving a brilliant strategist taking over many tribes an establishing the the Jarldom of Ylfing, taking the tribes name to establish his own dynasty.

>Fluff: During the great cataclysm the native peoples of americas were quickly thrown into chaos and danger. great upheavals and migrations took place all over the continent as they tried to appease whatever god had gained control for the moment or were trying to flee the conflict outright. While the land slowly became the land of the dead many had begun to grow even more desperate and set out on the seas with primitive ships and with little navigation knowledge. Almost all died, but for the few that made it they reached greenland with those from Scandinavia who had already settled accepted them. Eventually even if they were small in number own their own, the sheer amount of different native groups reaching the land meant that they outnumbered the Scandinavians. Today, the current nation of skræl has homogenized ethnically, culturally, and linguistically with the original settlers forming core of all these things.

First roll is for your combat
The Francisians try and try with all their might to fill mighty reservoirs with the meager hand-operated water pumps they're provided with, but alas it forms little more than a large puddle in a hole in the end. The workers are very upset that they did all that work for naught. Lose 1 happiness.
The Francisians devise a clever mechanism made with a linen rope tied to a wood platform and hooked up to a wooden frame that, when the rope is pulled, can lift heavy weights into the air with much less muscle than doing it by hand. Though they are clunky at times, they do make things easier. Gain the Very Basic Cranes tech.
>>45312
As the skull is brought back to the chamber, it flies from the hands of the one carrying it, simply levitating in the middle of the otherwise empty room. "THEN THE CONTRACT IS FORGED. NOW THERE IS THE QUESTION OF WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR ME…SHOW ME YOUR INDUSTRIOUSNESS, MORTALS, AND YOUR SKILL WITH YOUR PICKAXES. DIG THESE MINES DEEPER, DIG MINES IN FARAWAY LANDS, AND IMPROVE YOUR ABILITY TO DO SO. SHOW ME THE TREASURES OF THE EARTH YOU FIND AND YOU WILL BE REWARDED. YOU MAY BUILD FOR ME A TEMPLE AS WELL, SO THE FAITHFUL MAY HAVE A PLACE TO WORSHIP. THIS SHALL EARN YOU MY FAVOR AS WELL…AND IF YOU NEED SOMETHING TO CALL ME…MANTUS WILL DO." (Change your favor tab to Mantus (Earth, metals, darkness, protection): 2)
Unfortunately no new recruits are gained as a cult has been going around saying that the God Below detests violence and to put down your swords to avoid angering him. Many people listen and become angry at Samson's insistence for them to take up arms. Lose 1 happiness.
As he's working in his smithy, Julius decides that, while the people of Elsass have decent enough blades to work on, they have relatively little to protect themselves with. As such, the people of Elsass get to work developing some effective armor using iron as the main material. The armor comes out well enough, and though the plates are still cumbersome and restricting to be used for full armor they are instead made things like cuirasses and the like. Gain Very Basic Armor (Iron) and raise troop strength to +6 for every 100 troops.
Seeing as how flat land is scarce in the lands of Elsass, Friedrich comes up with the solution to carve terraces in the nearby hills and plant the crops on them to maximize space. The idea works quite well, and the people find they have much more room to plant things now. Gain the Very Basic Terraced Farms tech and raise food production to 14,000.
>>45314
Despite having to clean up all the muddy water from the building and find what he could of the parts he had constructed, Decimus is able to put together a decent forge. With the new forge the smiths are able to smelt the iron and the new metal quickly becomes popular. Gain the Very Basic Forges tech and the Ironworking tech. Also increase troop strength to +14 to combat rolls for every 100 troops and +6 to combat rolls for every 5 galleys. Lastly change Iron Ore to Iron.
The Romans are quick to adopt the idea of irrigating their fields, and the idea spreads throughout the lands. When harvest season rolls around, the Romans are quite pleased to see their larders now full of crops thanks to irrigation allowing them to keep their crops watered easier and allowing them to plant further away from the Tiber as well. Gain the Very Basic Irrigation tech and increase food production to 17,750.
The Romans move southwards, claiming many new lands along the coast as their own and expanding their empire greatly. Gain 5 territories.
Despite the best logic of the Romans the group still insists that putting great loads upon horses' backs is cruelty and shouldn't be practiced. The idea gets ever more popular, catching on with patricians and plebeians alike, but mostly the impressionable youths. Lose 1 happiness.

Unfortunately people can't wrap their heads on how to get the ore to melt. Several forge ideas were tried, but they were all scrapped out of fears that they would burn down the whole town because they couldn't contain the flames. It seems proper ironworking will have to wait a while longer…
However, the smiths of Aiseirigh ARE able to perfect a new design for javelins which will prove to be a great asset to the armies of Aiseirigh. Change Basic Spears to Improved Spears (Spears, Javelins) and increase troop strength to +11 for every 100 troops.

The already advanced maps of the Nile now look even more glorious, something which the people of the Nile pride themselves greatly on. Gain the Basic Nile Cartography+ tech and 1 happiness.
The researchers of the Nile cut the papyrus reeds into thin strips and fashion them into something that can be written upon, which is much easier than carving things onto stone. This invention will be a great help in recording knowledge easier, should the citizens of the Nile decide to invent a reliable writing system. Gain 1 happiness and the Very Basic Paper (Papyrus) tech. Also gain the Papyrus Reeds industrial resource.
The workers work double time on the Great Pyramid, doing truly exemplary work and completing much of the pyramid with great precision and finesse. The top of the pyramid still needs to be added, but already the pyramid is quite massive, dwarfing anything that had come before it. Change Foundations of the Great Pyramid to Great Pyramid (nearly finished) and gain 1 faith.

Second roll is for combat
The smiths aren't really sure what this "chainmail" is or even how to go about making it considering this is their first real attempt, but they do smelt some iron plates and pound them into pieces of armor such as crude cuirasses and helmets to protect the vitals. Finally, the scholars have time to actually think about a good writing system, and come up with a reliable script for the people to use. It'll definitely help with communication between the different islands, among other things. Gain the Mediterran Alphabet tech and 1 happiness.

The Babylonians also develop strong spears with a unique and effective design not seen in other lands. The Babylonians swell with pride at the new invention and the military is happy as well to receive the exquisite weapons. Gain the Very Basic Babylonian Spears tech and increase troop strength to +10 to combat rolls for every 100 troops.
The Babylonians research sturdy wooden shields as well, which prove to be a great compliment to the new spears, improving the defenses of the Babylonian troops greatly. Gain the Very Basic Shields tech and increase troop strength to +11 for every 100 troops.

After such accidents happen quite frequently, Tabukvik decides that the new ships all be scrapped and that he must come up with a new design. However, a total of 700 people are dead before the lesson is learned. Lose 700 people.
However, back on land the people discover that certain objects, when blown in a certain way, can make noise that can be turned into a melody. The Skraeli refine this further and make a wooden flute, the first wind instrument. Improve Improved Music to Intermediate Music (throat singing, drums, lyres, flutes)

Now with the rise of a new warlord they seek to extend their dominance to those around them as well.

Francisians see themselves as the only civilized people. They have strict moral codes and obey the laws of chivalry to the best of their ability. The laws of chivalry are the only thing holding them back in war as they often find that the most effective warfare is "too barbaric" however they make up for this with their graceful fighting techniques and advanced siege weapons. Within the cities of Francisia, crimes are taken much more seriously than in barbaric lands with an almost draconian rule. Those that commit crimes meet with the business end of the executioner’s axe. Even being impolite to another Francisian can have a man put in the pillory for a few hours. To pass the time Francisians train in their preferred profession. Fighters learn better fighting techniques, chefs learn more extravagant recipes, and philosophers debate and discuss. Thanks to the evidence of there being gods, the philosophy of many Francisians is one of honour through war as even the divine war with each other.

1. Samson had little understanding for these people. The God below rested within the Mountain's womb. They could go there and inquire about the necessity of arms with him themselves if they so wished. He however would continue to train more men to defend the Free City and if necessary take the fight to those who would seek to harm it beyond its own borders.
2. The large cavern the men had first encountered Mantus would serve perfectly as a place of worship. Hidden and protected deep within the mountain womb people would venture into the depths, assured that the mineshafts would hold as their Protector watched over them. Friedrich would be first to pay his respects to the God Below here, at times spending days without seeing the sun.
3. Julius inspected this new type of armor. It was crude to say the least but for the moment it would do. What he was more interested in was the introduction of shields. As a self proclaimed genius he would do his best to come up with a shield that would be optimal for fighting both in large formations on the outside and defending the narrow chokeholds of the Elsass' paths within the mountains themselves.

1. This new city is a gift form Poseidon himself in honor of this we will convert the damaged palace into a Grand temple to poseidon larger than either before it and move our priesthood there to centralize our faith, ship in as many pearls as we can so that the ceiling can be lined with their radiance and the floors glistening with gold. (+5 Happiness bonus, Basic Masonry, Very Basic Slavery, Very Basic Religion (Poseidon))
2. Docks must be built so ships can more easily move between Troy and our new city of Rhodes (+5 Happiness Bonus, Basic Masonry, Very Basic Slavery)
3. This new city is also covers a central point of entry to our realm from the south and needs to be a well defended position, a fortress shall be built there to house and train soldiers and sailors to defend our realm and trade with the people of Babylon (+5 Happiness Bonus, Basic Masonry, Very Basic Slavery)
4. We need a mighty fleet to protect our new territories and as such we shall set about creating a heavy warship to strike hard where the trireme can't take advantage of it's nimbleness, more robust in size and with more rowing teams to drive it forwards and a migthy iron front to crash into enemies for boarding actions (+5 Happiness Bonus, Basic Shipbuilding, Improved Shipbuilding (Triremes))
I assume I can apply the trireme bonus to making a quinquereme because they are basically just giant triremes

Jarldom of Ylfing
>Color:
Orange
