Colony builder:
Earth is doomed. Sign of alien life had at last been detected. However that detection was of a massive asteroid being pulled by a solar sail towards earth.
As expected this did not really thrill the populace in general with the the whole imminent death and all.
With an estimated 16 months before impact the goverments went together to create arks. Meant to take the best and brightes. The healthiest and most diverse of mankind to new worlds. Equipped with the most advanced technology of 2047. An advanced SI, genetic labs equipped with embryos and incubators, Suspended animation tubes to keep the crew and populace of 50 dormant for the journey and most of them for the early stages of the colony. Weapons were added with the realisation of the existance of outside threats. Massdrivers and lasers on the arks and Lasers, explosives, coilguns and Oh so many non-lethal weapons in the ark armoury.
The project did not go flawlessly and conflicts arose regarding who would send how many people on the arks and it all came to a point with the nuclear annihilation of Brazil when they held one of the launch sites hostage.
But as the asteroid approached the arks streaked out to solar systems deemed potentially life-sustaining. 6 Arks in all driven by solar sails and Ion engines.
After 43 years of travel the ark is waking up the necessary crew to prepare for landing. Contact with all other Arks has been lost. Wether it's due to catastrophy, equipment failure, distance or something else is unknown.
You are the crew. Thoroughly vetted and choosen for your ability to fill an important role on this new colony. (I won't accept lolrandom characters. they have to have a chance of getting on the ark).
First we vote on:
1. What kind of planet is it?
A. Frozen planet.
B. Arid planet.
C. Barren planet.
D. Volcanic planet.
E. Oceanic planet.
F. Desert planet.
All of these planets ARE possible to have a colony on and have different advantages and disadvantages. if there is life on them is unknown.
2. the arks had slightly different focuses to try to get atleast one to survive. what was the focus of this one?
A. Military.
B. Genetics.
C. Industry.
D. Botaniy.
E. Zoology.
F. Academia.
3. Who is captain?
4. Who is Head of security?
5. Who is chief engineer?

Each turn you roll 2d100 for actions and if you have 1 of the superior positions you can roll a 3rd d100 to do an action in that area.
the success scale is 50+ success with potentially MASSIVE bonuses and penalties to the action. The goal is to make it a somewhat realistic simulation of the success rate of a person with your training and abilities.
for example a person shooting a rifle at 30 meters range with a little bit of trainig at a target would get +-0. while someone with NO TRAINING at all would probably get something like -30 or 40.
Think through your actions. Interact with eachother and be reasonable. Nobody wants to die because nobody wanted to repair the air-scrubbers.

Name: Lance Westerberg
Fluff: Lance Westerberg was born Gustav Westerberg in Stockholm, Sweden. He gave himself the nickname. After he finished his education, he signed up with the Swedish air force, and quickly showed a great technical aptitude, quickly learning how to fly nearly every fighter in Swedish service at the time. After seeing combat in a counter-terrorism mission in the Middle-East, other elements in the Swedish military took notice of him, and seconded him into the SOG, Sweden's special forces, as a pilot and vehicle specialist. He underwent intensive training, and learned to fly stealth transports and bombers, as well as operate several types of ground vehicle. However, he was never very impressive in hand-to hand combat, or a particularly competent marksman. Despite his drawbacks (and, perhaps, in addition to them), he is egotistical, and always feels like he's one of the most important people in the room. To put it bluntly, he's a bit of an asshole. He was selected for the Ark due to his skills with aircraft, and is familiar with the operation of each of the various vehicles in the Ark, especially the flier.

1. Man, I'm hype. If anything goes wrong, we could all burn up, crash, bounce, or whatever. In any event, a lot depends on the SI, and if that damn thing doesn't work, me. I'm probably better than a robot, but whatever. In any event, I should keep working out. It'll keep me from freaking out too much. [Work out]
2. Who knows what kind of fauna exists on this planet? For all we know, it could be a bunch of sharks. With wings. And guns. Okay, that's not that feasible, but you never know. If I can find a punching bag on the ship, I can try to remember the basics of CQC. [Practice unarmed combat]

Name: Lt. James Marshall
Fluff: Growing up in the Hawaiian islands, Lt. James Marshall lived a fairly simple life. Thanks to an almost eidetic memory, school was never much of a problem. Finding an interest in scuba diving at a young age, as well as the basics of aquaculture, James attended college and grad school on the military's dime. After getting his Master degrees in Botany and Zoology, he entered the research corps of the US Navy. Never much one for combat, he barely managed to get through basic. Name: Rauny Haddock
Fluff: Rauny Haddack is something of an odd character. Personality wise, she wracked with long-standing contradictions in her character. For example, she is a devout Christian who is pro-science. She is against violence, but served in the military. She hates killing, but likes fighting. She dislikes liberals, but reads their books. She hates drinking, but loves drunks. She hates reading, but likes books. Despite all of this strangeness, Rauny remains an even-handed personality; some assert that her apparently bi-polar nature is the key to her success – she remains both nuanced and approachable while also maintaining a hard edge where she seems to think it is proper. As such, this makes Rauny fairly effective in most tasks, and extremely difficult to outwit - she is a mental fox and not a mental hedgehog.

Name: Artyom

Fluff: Artyom was originally a poor farmer from the Russian Republics back on old Terra, when the annual government screenings came up, it was found that this poor potato farmer had an intelligence level that put most scientist to shame. He was conscripted into the Russian Science division in an attempt to protect the Russian leadership under 7 kilometers of crust. For months he worked as a miner and moonlighted as a geologist. When the actual asteroid was found to be large enough to destroy all life on Earth, the plan was cancelled and Artyom was sent with the rest of his division to work on the arks. He was going to die, Artyom knew this, Five years in the trenches on the Chechnyan front, surrounded by both the bodies of his friends and the potatoes he once loved had hardened him. The only thing that got to him was the thought of never seeing his lover, the blonde-haired angel Vanalika, and thus he was a mess for the last few months of the construction program, and found solace only in the mines, finding the right quality metals to be used in the arks construction. Imagine his surprise when he blacked out in the mines on the last day of life on earth, only to be awoken on an ark heading to another world. Apparently his intelligence and skill with rock had been noted, and would be valued in the settling of a new world, thus he was *coerced* onto the ship for the betterment of mankind

Fluff:
Born of a poor farming family in the back country of the New Soviet Republic he learned at an early age the harsh realities of the world and how cruel it could be. When the majority of his family died in the Great Famine of 89, he joined the cloth devoting his time to religious studies and helping the needy. In this time he viewed the disastrous farming techniques that had cause the death of so many and the instability of the current world system. Hoping to truly great change he got his degree in botany and started to work on new types of sustainable farming and genetically engineered plants seeing it all as God's test for humanity to overcome nature and truly take it's place at his side. With the coming of the Meteor Father Nikolas believed that God was giving them the final test, throwing them from the cradle to the black abyss to see if they could rise above. The satelite gets launched by engineer Santiago out of the massdriver at a trajectory that is estimated to put it in an orbit around the planet that should let it pass over the islands that have been preliminarily selected. But as the satelite moves a heat signature rises on one of the asteroids that litter the area and a missile streaks out towards the satelite! Luckily the SI managed to shoot it down despite it's evasive manouvers. Though all of this has stressed the ship batteries. So far this information is only avaible to the leadership. In the years before the construction of the Arks, he was known in the scientific community for being one of the leading intellectuals in the much denigrated fields of Theoretical Xenopsychology and Xenosociology, as well as being one of the researcher working on the axioms of Psychohistory.

1. That was actually… fairly underwhelming. I was almost hoping for a systems failure, after which I'd have to expertly pilot the craft onto the surface, barely saving everyone and everything on board. Oh well. I'm sure a time will come when the future of the human race is in my hands. In any event, someone needs to survey the surrounding area, and it may as well be me. I'll try to get the exploration submersible into the water, pending the approval of the rest of engineering. I'm not keen on drowning. Once I'm in, I'll examine the damage that the atmospheric entry and splashdown caused to the vessel. [Examine damage using submersible, +25]
2. While I'm down there, I should give the rest of the area a look-see. I want to know the basics of the area that we're in. For one: What's the water like, composition-wise. That should be easy. Just take a sample and bring it back to the lab. Most of it, I'm guessing, will be sketching out the seafloor around the splashdown site, and collecting soil samples. I don't really need to do much of anything with them except bring them back to Lt. Marshall pr Dr. Hart. [Roughly map seafloor, collect samples, +25]

In this time he viewed the disastrous farming techniques that had cause the death of so many and the instability of the current world system.
